I am thinking of getting a k31 swiss rifle soon. I am interested in reloading the round as it is fairly expensive to buy. My question is this: Does anyone know if the surplus 7.5x55 is brass cased or steel cased? also is it berdan primed or boxer? final question, Can a round that is berdan primed be re primed with a boxer primer? I have never reloaded before so sorry about the noob questions.

The GP11 is brass cased but berdan primed. There are ways to convert it but generally speaking it's a lot easier to guy buy reloadable brass.
To convert berdan brass to boxer the usual method is to swage the primer pockets and drill a new flash hole. This differs from the steel case method which often requires glue or copper tubing.

$75 for 100 cases by Prvi at TradeEx (sponsor up top). I'd just go that route if you want to reload 7.5 Swiss.

For what the empty Prvi Partizan brass costs, it isn't that much more expensive to buy a supply of loaded Prvi ammo (also available from Trade Ex) and saving the brass for reloading once you have shot it. The economy in rifle reloading is mostly in reusing the cases.

$75/100 for brass
$125/100 for loaded ammo ($25/20)

Bullets are $35/100 most places
Primers will run $5/100
About 4000ish grains of powder for 100rnds would be $23ish

Comes to $135/100rnds for your first batch of loads with new brass or $125 for 100rnds of factory ammo with reusable brass.
At that price I'd probably just buy the loaded ammo.

Good catch tjhaile.

Go and buy yourself a crate of GP11 and enjoy the K31 while you shoot through the 480 rounds. During this time you can read up on reloading the GP11 and when you figure it out you have 480 pieces of brass.

GP11 is berdan. It is a b!tch to reload. I only reload Berdan when there is no brass alternative.

I just bought a set of Lee dies and 100 pieces of Privi brass and will load my first rounds tonight. I have had the K31 for 3 months and have yet to shoot it. I put a scope on this afternoon, so my old eyes don't have to use the open sights.

I am going to make some Mexican match 7.62R tonight, as well. Results will be posted in Milsurp, tomorrow afternoon.

I heard a friend mention using some sort of hydro (water) pressure unit/method to remove the berden primer from GP11 (?)

Fill with water to nearly full.
Insert a metal rod that is about the same size as the case mouth.
Whack the rod with a hammer.
Sounds simple, but I havent had much success...

For primers, Canada Ammo may be bringing in the correct ones next year.

hey Chris,

Doing a bit of research on reloading Swiss GP-11 7.5x55 ammo.
The cases are definitely Berdan, not Boxer.
From what I read elsewhere, they use .217" dia primers, but that dia comes in two heights.

You only show the low type, ( SKU: DAKV24NPRIME ) suitable for 7.62x39.

Any plans on getting the taller KV762 type more suitable for larger volume cases, such as 7.5 Swiss?

Cheers,

Yes, we'll have the 762 ones next year. primers are Murom BTW. Tula is just another brand name used.
