GPS - Practical hunting technology

For 20 bucks a year, you can overlay your waypoints and tracks onto google earth, (if you have a Garmin or Magellan GPS....other brands are not compatible yet). For that 20 bucks, you are also supposed to be able to print higher resolution maps.

I use my Garmen Legend to map snowmobile trails, and routes through various lakes, swamps and cut blocks all winter. Good for noting where different game is sighted... moose, deer, grouse, coyote, bear etc. all year around.

You could even use it to find your way home if you get lost and your batteries don't die! :D

Does anyone here pay their 20 bucks?

I bought google earth for our last trip to the states. It allowed me to
download the route, and with the gps, follow allong with the trip in real
time. Now you can see a silo on both sides! Really adds to the drive.

btw, we've been buying from www.gpscentral.ca out of Calgary. They
have a large web store, and awesome support. I forgot my cable when
I was visiting, and they loaned me one, and had me mail it back when
I got home. I like customer service.

I did. Otherwise I cannot upload my routes onto their maps.

Fortunately for me, my cabin is in one of the super-high res sattelite image areas. I can see a tremendous amount of detail of my property, and the surrounding areas where I hunt, fish, and snowmobile. I can almost pick out a moose in an open area. Certainly can see old cars and log cabins out in the bush.

Worth it for me!
