Grand Power K100 X-Trim Review - Reflections of a newb

no way you would flick on a safety that flush on the draw, especially since your thumb will be up and out of the way on the draw.

the problem with wide safeties on guns that aren't 1911s is that they arent as high up as the 1911 one and thus get in the way when you have a proper high grip on the gun. that the reason you see everyone swapping their shadows stock safety for a flush one. I find the same problem on the GP pistols with the wide safeties. luckily they are higher than other guns so they arent as in the way for me as others, but my support hand still gets dug into by them and my friends with higher grips/bigger hands than mine end up turning the safety on with their week hand.

An option for some is to simply use the dominant side wide safety, and leave the weak side standard.
The new X-Caliburs ship with the wide installed but the standard come in the box.

Nice review! We should have more reviews from users.

I agree, impartial reviews by people who aren't getting compensation are hard to come by, especially outside our community. It can be difficult to tell the genuine from the fluff in today's world of kickbacks and sponsorships.

But in all fairness like I said before, although I'm not financially or otherwise motivated, my reviewing a gun I own isn't exactly what I would call an objective criticism, only because my collection and experience is somewhat limited in comparison to many others. And, for the most part everyone's going to love what they have. Just look at a "What to buy for first gun" thread! The difference for me in this case was, as I mentioned in the review, no gun that I've owned to date (except maybe my browning X-Bolt) has impressed me enough (especially for the value, which is very important to me) to motivate me to write.

At least there are pretty pictures!

So sorry, you've shot GP's with both stock flush and wide safeties? What was your final impression, to leave it alone?

didnt get to shoot it with the stock safeties (still working on that, and trying the standard k100 trigger not the x-cal) but did shoot it with the wide safety. And found it better than many (shadow, tanfoglio stock II) but still not quite high enough to not be in the way. I'd leave it alone for sure.

that is excellent that they give you both with the x-cal now, just one more reason to add to my list of reasons why I say buy the x-cal over a shadow for production. Still what I would spend my money on if you could pry my 1911s out of my hands...

edit: the very very long version of my x-cal experience http://www.shooterready.ca/2014/02/04/grand-power-x-calibur-review/
