Hi everyone,

just wondering what everybody thinks about these? The local shop has good things to say about it but I allways prefer to have the gun nutz opinions before purchasing. :D

Grand Slam rings and bases from Weaver, these are made of steel, right?
Good/bad experience with them? Lets see some feedback :)

Thanks

I cannot say anyhting about the rings, but the bases are pretty good IMHO. They are made of steel and I had them on my varmint\target rifle; I swapped them out because I needed a canted base.

I like the Weaver Steel grand slam bases, but don't like the look of the rings.

If you want many mounting options, check out the TPS line of rings and bases. Picatinny rails offer many ring mounting locations.

Don't be afraid of high grade al. 7075 rings or bases. They are stronger then most steels and very light...

I got a set of Weaver Quad rings today on a trade.

They look like a big improvemnt over the old style, and would be light as well. :)

Thanks for the replies everyone.

### International, I'll be using these rings on a hunting rig, wouldn't TPS base/rings be overkill? Don't get me wrong, I want quality all over this rifle, just wondering if it's "appropriate"? (for lack of better words) I'm no competition shooter...

Would a picatinny base be "higher" than a regular base? I'm used to open sights, this is the first time I'll have a rifle with a scope so I figure I'll like to have it really low on the gun to have the same "feel". Am I right? I have very little experience with scopes...

Gun will be a rem 700 in 308 (ordered but not arrived yet), scope is a 3-10x40 elite 3200 (allready bought that one), the only thing left to decide on is the base/rings. The main use of this rig will be hunting big game, and the occasional coyote/varmint. What would you prescribe, doctor? :D

Thanks again! I apreciate the imput :)
