grand slam rings

I'm thinking of getting a pair of these rings to mount a 2.5-10X scope onto a picatinny rail. Does the rail raises the scope more than regular bases? If you have grand slam rings, what do you think of them? I don't care for the original weaver rings, and I thought these ones looked good. Thanks, Rob
