grandfathering signification ?

Wonder how many restricted and prohib hand gun owners would actually turn them in ? Civil disobedience sure by some a very good chance of that. Site says as of December 2014 there are 912, 000 in the country. Could be a lot more ?? I wonder exactly how many handguns are really and truthfully are in the country, let alone the actual true number of all guns period in Canada.

ya no. A liberal or NDP gov would not have reversed course. In this case, the elected government, with no intention of ratcheting up controls, were not going to accept unilateral decisions made by non-elected officials on a big "P" policy issue.

We seem to be missing the point here.

What, praytell, would Any government do if 100 000 people just said NO
These 100 000 are students and laymen yes, but also lawyers and bankers and doctors etc.etc

These people would all be arrested, released and summoned to court hearings
They would all be told to cooperate or fines would be stiffer

But what if all of these 100 000 people said F off
then what????? Incarceration???

I say again: Dare to dream

I don't care about your "point". your understanding of the swiss arms issue is flawed. period.

I don't care about your opinion either. I have no understanding of the Swiss arms issue as I never owned one but that doesn't mean I did not find it offensive that legitimit property could be taken away in that manner.

Again this infamous quote " first they came for the communists but I wasn't a ..."

F# k Swiss arms : there's a bigger picture

Lets make sure we all get out and vote. Whenever possible introduce new people to the sport. Be vocal about the enjoyment you derive from the sport. Educate people whenever you can about the irrational gun laws Canadian firearms owners face. I hear people, including firearms owners, refer to firearms as weapons, it drives me crazy. Firearms are not weapons unless used as such, as is a knife, car or baseball bat......so lets continue to educate ourselves. And never think owning firearms is a privilege as they try to make us think.

A+ well said.

I don't think that arguing that a gun is not a weapon works to our advantage. A better argument is to say that because there is a benefit to the safety and security of society, it is necessary for Canadian citizens to have access to weapons. Further more, weapons, both firearms and blades, have a non-martial component, which make them desirable to law abiding enthusiasts who intend to use them in support of a hobby.

DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I don't worry about all the BS. We have been through this for so many years & the sky hasn't fell yet.
Enjoy the firearms sports, be safe & to hell with the politics crap!

Unfortunately the prevalent attitude.
You couldn't bury heads much deeper in the sand without hitting bedrock.

^^^^ Some good Canadian common sense prevails ...

Canadian common sense: the state of being in perpetual denial
Mulcair has already stated in so manywords that he is going to reinstate the LGR, ban handguns and SAs.

Some forgot to re-register their handguns years ago when we went from the old RWRS green paper registration certificates to the current CFR and to my knowledge haven't heard from any government agency since.
The reason they wanted everyone to re-register their handguns is that the old RWRS was so fk'd up the mounties didn't have a clue who owned what or where many of the guns were.
I'm assuming that a lot of restricted/prohibited firearms are currently "in the wind".

They could make an example of 100,500,5000,10 000 peolple but NO modern "democratic"state on Earth could "INSTANTLY" turn 100 000 of its citizens into criminals- I repeat, 100 000 of its most vetted citizens. The legal aspect alone would bring the whole legal system to a standstill.

They arrested 50 or so Hells Angels 5-6 yrs ago and the Quebec legal system cannot handle it. These are BAD people.
Imagine the Headache if they tried this with 20 000 ( since 4 out of 5 would opt out).

So these handguns are basically unaccounted for or MIA around the country in the governments eyes ?

I forget the numbers but a the amount of registered M-1 carbines is a rather small percentage as to what was "guestimated" to exist before the 1978 law.

If you trusted the government back in the 70s before Turdo Sr. declared war on us with bill c51 you were a good citizen.
If you have lived thru the 40 or so odd years that have transpired since then and still trust the government you're a fking idiot.
PET and his best buddy and mentor Fidel were both commies and disarming the public is a cornerstone of that political system.
Seems a lot of Canadians even back then didn't trust the government.
As you say only a fraction of the 18" bbl M-1s were ever registered.
REGISTRATION = CONFISCATION
Remember that before rushing to register your long guns in the beards new registry that isn't really a registry (his words not mine). ;)
