Granola Cruncher Unknowingly Gives Bobcat Hunting Tip... :)

I was out this morning near Hope for my last deer hunt of the year just as I was coming back out of the bush to my truck I came across an older granola cruncher/teacher hiking up the logging road after a bit of conversation he started to open up and started telling me about all the rabbits in the area and about a family of bobcats that have been living for over 25 years on this very mtn side that we were on...

Oh man if he had any idea what I do he would have s**t himself...

Yes I'll be going back with my FX3 e-caller & my Jack in the Box & injured woodpecker decoys...

He also stated there were lots of coyotes around there as well... :D

Just have to decide what rifle/cartridge/load combo I have that I want to use now...

:sniper:

No didn't even see one... two guys showed up just as I got to the gate so I let them go in first...

I then headed over to where I bumped into the old fellow which isn't the best area around...

I once had a bunch of hippies try to disturb a deer hunt, they were driving around on logging roads blowing their horns, playing wolf howls etc. Of course it stirred up the deer, made them move up the runways, we got our count that year. Some dumb SOB told them to rub it in and they stopped.

Just don't wipe out the cats, they take an unbelievably long time to regenerate. I leave the bobbies alone, as they're not big enough to be a good big game hunt, and not common enough to varmint hunt like 'yotes. They're beautiful creatures, I hope that family stays on the hillside there. :) This guy's from the same ballpark.

Don't worry I only have one tag and will not shoot if it is in a family unit...

I'm thinking you would be surprised at how high the numbers of bobcats are around the valley...

:)

Cool - I wish we could hunt them here in Ontario (only trappers can IIRC).

Here is one I got pics of on our 2008 moose hunting trip. I was 6 feet away :D

Hey Camp Cook, what is the deer hunting normally like around the Hope area. My significant other is from the area and whenever I visit that area I always wonder such things....?

Yeah, I don't touch cats around here either. I know where they are (well, sometimes they know where I am first :0 ), but don't think they are out of control like yotes.

The deer are mostly blacktail or hybrid blacktail/mule deer in other words they are hard to hunt staying in the thickest of bush most of the time it is also spotty I had a excellent hole until a buddy sucked the info out of me 2 years ago since then he has shot 1 2 point, 2 4 points & a 4 X 5 out of the spot he can get there easier than me he lives in Hope so it is only minutes away for him.

Interesting....it would be a fun hunt to try out some time. Alot different than what I am used to here. Do the deer come out to the edges of cuts at times, allowing you to sit and wait them out? or do you still hunt the thick stuff for 'em?
