That looks like the original finish to me as it matches up quite nicely with the other K31s I have seen. By 1958 the Swiss already had developed and started issuing the STGW 57 (as I understand it) so there is a chance that it was never issued (which would explain how it is so nice as that is the nicest stock I have ever seen on a K31.
 
Got one a while ago, love it. Cant wait to see how well mine does at longer ranges.

Better stack the ammo deep, Its going to be very scarce in the coming years. Going to try to grab a few cases myself.
