Great fun with the Lyman #311299, 200Gr. Cast Bullet

Right on :just having fun!

If a shooter can find the right balance in a cast load, leading normally isnt an issue.
You seem to have found that.

When I first was trying to buy a cast rifle, I was looking for a 1:10" twist.
But I found a real good deal on my 1:12" twist .308 Rem700.
Looking back on it, I was fortunate to get this twist rate.
I know I can get well into the 2200's (fps) with my #311299's, but I will look at which powders will give me the ability to maintain accuracy.
IMR4350 & R22 are great candidates. My only limitation being if there is enough fuel room to reach the velocities I am targeting.
I really like the idea of having a full case without needing a filler!
But the light loads with a filler are so nice to shoot!

I have heard allot of positive things about RCBS moulds! I have one in a .357,160 gr.round nose plain base.
I shoot this bullet in my IMI Timberwolf. I average under an inch at 50 yards. But I have the bullet seated out to engrave the rifling slightly. A single load option only darn it. It seems no matter what, this rifle groups out to 1.5-2" at 50 yards if the bullet is seated deep enough to function through the action.
Plenty accurate for the cartridges capability. But I wish I had a shorter throat in that rifle!

Later guys! Straight shootin!

I think you are thinking too much about bullet touching the rifling
back charge down and try it from the mag

the load i shot with the 180g (187g as cast) (with dacron) seated length was 2.593
and fed from the mag. The base of the GC is even with the shoulder
best group was 2-7/8 for 5 @105 ---- 3 could be covered with a quarter
I think it was me, I was mostly shooting for function in the semi,
the sun was setting, that rifle has a short throat , it was at the end of a long day, etc.
that is my story and I am sticking to it

I need to redo some of the testing with larger lots instead of shooting one group per powder change
