Great Mysteries of the Sporting Arms World

Ain't no way a scope's faster- a red dot has its place but I hate batteries and stuff to rattle loose. I'm probably not terribly far from you these days, and I'd like to meet you we have mutual acquaintances, want to meet up for a friendly and do a speed shoot, irons versus glass with .375s? :) I'd put a few bucks on the irons.

I've seen loose mounts multiple times, and full out internal scope failure (Bushnell, so no not quality glass admittedly) on hunts. Worst I've had with irons is the rear sight Jack getting rammed all the way forward and I shot the wrong grouse! Kid you not and cringe to mention this part as it sounds like a stretch, but hit a grouse upslope and behind the one I was shooting at without meaning to. So I suppose irons still haven't failed me!

Now that's throwing down the gauntlet - I somehow don't think Gates will take up the challenge though!

I want to be your second (gun bearer, boot licker, skivie) call it what you will - please.....:G:

Around here anyway this is one I don't understand.... Lol
Why don't hunters have spotting scopes? Every year before deer season we get a crew out to "sight in" at the range and it's a ####ing nuisance when they take 3 shots then have to walk down range to see their groups...

I always take my spotting scope. The mystery for me is that after i check it out in the spotter, i still feel the need to walk up to it. Like the holes in the paper are going to change and i cant believe it...not always but sometimes.

Like hitting the walk sign button repeatedly, the elevator button several times, or having someone stand behind you in a long line up. It just makes you feel better somehow.

What I don't get is why people buy junk spotting scopes to see bullet holes that they can't see through their junk scopes.

I can see .22 cal holes at 100m with a 2-7x32....so yeah, I dunno what the deal is with these guys....lol
I think it's just the guys that literally only pick up their gun for those 2 weeks a year and a box of shells last them 4 years....

I don't have one, yet I recently shot my friends, and was very impressed. Hitting the gong at 180 measured yards every time. That's better then many of my other .22s
T

I bet your friends weren't impressed.

Why do people shoot their friends? A mystery for the ages.:p;)

And I know it's been mentioned, but I second the lack of iron sights on newer hunting rifles. Seems like bad idea to have no backup.

I'd agree as I'm with you on "Why care?", but there's genuine reason to question it if you spend thirty seconds thinking about it. The problem is branding. Browning has quite ingeniously developed a logo and brand people are willing to pay to brandish. That's the new age, buying into a brand even if you may not practice it, and a good few take a step back and look at any brand with the same incredulity. It seems preposterous to myself and others folks will buy someone's advertising, then sport it on their own volition on their personal property. It's a mad, mad world, from Harley Davidson edition F150s to camo Browning stickers.

This baffles me too. Buy a company hat/jacket??? I might wear it if you give it to me free. Cabelas sweatshirts for $60??
