So I ordered a new front sight for my favourite Norinco 1911. It's not a dovetailed FS setup, just a stake on. I had a look at the sight before ordering and thought, "narrow tenon".

So the narrow tenon Trijicon arrives and I'm thinking, hang on...that's REALLY narrow!

There is no way the one I am replacing is a .125 tenon - it's way narrower than the sight itself. Am I just looking at a peened-out bottom of the sight tenon or did some Norincos come with a "medium tenon"?

#### will I be annoyed if I just spent $90 to get a useless (to me) front sight!

Narrow tenon

I have a Norinco 1911A1. This gun has a narrow tenon just like the WWII Colt .45 and the Hi Viz narrow tenon sight measures .059" wide. The slot in the slide is just over that at its widest, but the slot tapers from wider just below the sight, to the narrow dimension, then spreads out into a wide chamfer to allow the soft tail of the sight to be peened into it. This wider chamfer gives the soft metal of the sight a way of solidly anchoring the sight in place. A squirt of Loctite helps too. Hope this helps, Geoff.

My Norinco 29 had the narrow tenon and my buddy used a Millet staking tool to secure my new front sight and its still there. I did not measure the tenon, just ordered a narrow tenon and after peening it, it was secure.

I went completely the other way with my Nork.... I have my slide at the g-smith right now getting it milled for a dovtail front sight!

I didn't realise they even made staked sight with fiber optic in them......

No, I made the right choice...... right?

:D

Cheers!

What does TnT charge for something like that? I have a Norinco 1911 and was debating doing the same thing as I have a set of 1911 dovetailed sights I want to put in it.

To my knowledge they do not...however they do make one with a tritium insert!

Anyway I am now suspecting as well as hoping that I did not screw this up and that my nork matches everyone else's...thanks guys for the reassurance!

I guess I will just send it all up to Gunnar and cross my fingers. It is going in for some tuning and barrel replacement anyway so I figured as long as it's up there, might as well throw on a glowing, evil FS.

I would replace the rear sight too...but it's a Wilson that I like a lot for some reason and the dots will finally match.

Staked Fiber-optic

Try Hi Viz for FO staked sights. About USD $40.
