MD, your original comment stated "anywhere in the world". Further, I too am fully aware that we do not live in Britain but the world is a very hostile place for use hunters, shooters, and firearms owners. Won't even touch on trapping. Britain, Europe, Australia... are certainly not friendly to the aforementioned activities and or "blood sports". Ownership of firearms and ammunition is strictly controlled and hunting for the most part is done by a select group there. Outside of the western world most "civilians" can't even legally own a firearm...and/or afford one.
We firearms owners have a very good thing here in Canada but IMO it requires a constant vigilant fight. I too, like yourself live in a community where many take part in outdoor activities including hunting and shooting...which is a good thing.
