Just came home from the Third annual Elgin Stewardship council's Youth Pheasant Hunt Opportunity.

What a great day...

The weather was perfect. In all some 48 kids between 12 and 14 years of age made it out for the day. Half in the morning and half in the afternoon.

I saw about 5 girls just in the afternoon session which is amazing.

In the end our group of 3 kids bagged 6 birds (my son accounting for 3 of them).

Two birds managed to escape multiple shots to live another day.

Sadly this is my last year hunting with my son at this event as he will have aged out. Mind you he wants to volunteer at next years event.

Each child in our group went home with 2 birds so supper tomorrow is being provided by my son.....a proud dad day if there ever was.

I saw Canadiankestrel out with his sister but do not know how they made out.

I will post pics later (wife is out with the camera).

Anyone in the St. Thomas area with kids should really check out this program.

Our group didn't fair so well. We shot one bird for the whole group (4 shooters). Most of the others escaped before we got to the cages. We tried shooting the ones in the field but they just ran instead of flying. We did have one lucky #### that lost lots of feathers but managed to fly unhindered several hundred meters into the pine lot. Not a real great day but I think all the hunters had fun. I know my sister did even though she didn't bag a bird. Thumbs up to the guys who organized this.

On a side note, the "reporter" female person was asking my sister questions about hunting and how long she had been hunting, ect. The reporter said she had never hunted. I should have thought to offer a range trip for her if she had never shot a gun before but I forgot. She did seem to handle the "guns everywhere" quite fine for a non-hunter.
