I was looking into Green Mountain barrels and noticed that they had a sporter version which you could install on regular stocks (not for heavy barrels) that required minimal wood removal. I just thought that this would be a good option and save me from having to get a new stock. I was just wondering if anyone has used these barrels and how difficult are they to install?
Cheers,

I assume you are wanting a barrel for a Ruger 10/22.

The barrel on the 10/22 is an easy swap involving removal of two allen head cap screws which retain the barrel clamp. Once these are removed the original barrel will slide out. Install the new barrel align the extractor in the bbl cut, reinstall the clamp & two screws & your good to go.:)

I hear good reports on all GM bbls. I have a 20" blued on my 10/22 & a 20" SS fluted on my 77/22. I am very pleased with the performance of these bbls.

GM barrels are great. I bought one a while back.

I was curious about the sporter barrel too. But I went with a bull instead. I cant wait to read your range report!

I have an E.R shaw on my gun, it came that way when I bought it. Traditionally how much do GM barrels go for?

I thought Green Mountain made the A&B barrels? Or at least a few years ago?

Adams and Bennet barrels by Battenfield Technologies get my vote as the best buy. Bentz match grade chamber. Price around $200.00 Canadian.

To me that's not much of a best buy.

You can pick up a plain janes GM 18'' blue bull barrel with a bentz chamber for $87.95 USD. With the exchange its $92.34 CAD.

Buy it from Rimfire sports and it's shipped for free.

I should have mentioned that was the stainless fluted model, so that's why it's a little more, plus my price is Canadian and yours is American. It is also blister packed with the Fajen thumbhole stock so that is why it is really difficult to put an exact value on it. The whole package sells for $399.00 Can. from RayneorShine out of Sask.

You do realise the exchange rate is almost nil right now. The price out the door, charged to my credit card for my g/f's barrel was $92.34 canadian dollars.

Just for ####s and giggles heres what a GM 18'' stainless fluted costs in canadian fro rimfire sports. $103.90.
