Well, its January and boredom has set in. So I grabbed some sand paper, food coloring & True Oil and headed out to the shop with my ugly RIA and did the Zombie thing, LOL. I used green first and then went over it with blue, then 9 coats True Oil,..sand buff & polish.

That looks pretty damn good. I just bought 2 RIA 10/22's for my lads (They'll get in the Spring). This kind of project would be great to personalize them. Great job!

This is actually the 2nd one I made green. My daughter confiscated the first one, so I made another LOL
here is a pic of the one my daughter took- I used yellow then went over it with green.

Very nice. I bought a RIA barreled action, no stock. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.
Local gunshop has them for $140.

They sell the Barreled action for $140 new ? Do they have more ? Does it happen to come with a clear magazine to.?
I'm kinda asking for a reason.

$129.99 actually, about $150 after tax:

A barrelled action for $ 129 is a good starting point for a custom build if the assembly is all metal. How is the trigger compared to the Original 10/22. Any idea if the OEM BX Trigger Assembly will fit the receiver?

Sorry, where do you find a barrelled action for $129?

hey Lone Ranger.

dont suppose you would mind posting a step by step in how you did the green paint job?
(or your SKS's all cleaned up and pretty looking)
im looking for something to do out in my shop and my brain keeps coming back to your project.
so i wrangled up a stock to try it out on, now i just need to know how to do it!!!

ive stripped and re-oiled stocks before but never with color.
if i had to guess id guess you took the gun down to bare wood with a stripper (haha) and then hit the bare wood with the food dye then once absorbed and dry start in with the oil as per normal?

whats with the 2 colors?
more depth?

inquiring minds want to know!!!

The RIA trigger is very heavy 6.8 lbs (at least mine was) but it's not that bad for a semi plinker. Most people aren't expecting to go past 50-100 yards with these anyway. I switched it with the Ruger BX trigger, prefect fit, no issues but I may put the RIA trigger back in ant put the BX back in my bolt rifle.. The RIA barreled action is pretty decent but expect to spend an hour or two cleaning the receiver. The bolt and barrel were bad too, the the receiver was so bad the action could barely move. For $129 it's a pretty good deal. Just be aware that the receiver will not take Ruger and possibly 3rd party barrels since the opening is larger.

I'm not normally a fan of the repaint and customizing wood stocks, but that is a nice job. Nice work and color selection.
I wouldn't have a problem with that in the rack.
