I picked up a couple of ww greener shotguns and wondering if anyone knows anything about dating these. Are they desirable for collecting? I did not have a camera with me(stupid) to provide you with pics and my knowledge is limited when it comes to these shotguns. The first one is a greener side lock exposed hammer side by side 10 guage. The second one is a greener royal 16 gauge without exposed hammers and is also a side by side. Both are covered with engraving and in reasonably nice shape. The 16 gauge has a crack in the stock that appears to be repairable. They both seem to be quite functional. The price was right so what the heck. Any info on these shotguns would be appreciated.

Greeners are very highly regarded guns, incorporating some very innovative ideas. Pick up a copy of W.W. Greeners seminal work, "The Gun and it's Development", first published in 1881 and revised many, many times, and enjoy some serious research into your new guns!

I had a Greener 10 gauge a couple of years ago. At the suggestion of members on doublegunshop forum, I emailed Graham Greener to see if he could tell me the year it was made. I figured he would never answer. I received a reply from him within 2 days telling me the year it was made, what the barrels were and that it was made for the American market.
I also believe he just finshed a new book on Greeners.

Royzo, if you posted some pictures members here might be likely to tell you a bit more about the guns. Greener made good guns and is highly regarded but they made a wide variety of guns. On the market today some are worth $500 and some are worth $50,000 and there is everything in between.

I would love to see pictures of your Greener. I bought, last year, one very old 12 Ga, 2 1/2 chamber,WW Greener needing a lot of tender loving care. Mine is an 1893 Facile Princeps pidgeon grade with Damascus SxS barrels proof for black powder.
I have on hand the latest book of the WWW Greener history. So if you can post pictures of your Greener and pictures of the markings on the barrels I migth be able to give you some details about what you got. As said before the value can vary widly.
