Hello all, I'm from London Ontario, I'm looking at getting involved with shooting. I'm sad to say the largest weapon I've fired "live" is an airgun, however I do own a .75 caliber reproduction tower musket that I regularly fire blank. I'm looking to get my PAL, to buy a rifle, and to join a shooting "club"/range. I have a few questions I would most apperciate if people could help me answer. First, can anyone reccomend a place to get my PAL in the London area? Likewise, can anyone reccomend a "club"/range in the London area to join? Next, can anyone reccomend a good rifle for me to purchase? I'm probably looking for a semiautomatic .22 caliber Rimfire rifle to get me used to shooting live ammunition, and for mild pest control, but I'm open to other suggestions if people think this is a bad choice. Finally, with a rifle like the above mentioned what legal issues are to be had? Do I need a permit to transport it home? To take it to the range? Do I need to keep informing th government where I live? and so on and so forth. Thank you so much for any help you can provide me, it will be most apperciated.
 
More the merrier.
I can't say about London area shooting, but a .22 LR is definately a good choice to start. Cheap ammo, and you don't develop a recoil flinch.
 
There are basically two options for clubs in the London area.


1) the Crumlin Club on Gore Road just East of Veterans Memorial Parkway

2) The East Elgin Sportsmen's Association near Aylmer Ontario.

Due to a obvious bias I can only speak about EESA. I have been a member since 1987 (with a decade off in between to raise kids). I think we have a great facitility.

Others can speak for Crumlin.

Now as to your other points.

buy a Ruger 10/22 do it now. You will end up getting one later anyway so why wait.

Get a PAL and it will answer the rest of your questions.

We teach them at EESA also.
 
I took my PAL course from Emad Hazboun. I've never met a more knowledgeable, passionate deer hunter in my life. (and he has fun in his class, too. Not just dull lectures.)

PAL/RPAL/Hunter Ed courses are run regularly at the Crumlin clubhouse. Check the website for the next dates.

(Officially scheduled) Trap shooting is every Wed night and Sun afternoon if you want to drop by and give it a whirl. $5/rd for a non-member, plus ammo.
 
im another one here from london, im a member at crumlin, so far im satisfied. EESA is just too far for me. takes 15 min to get to crumlin from my place.

Can't help out with the club, but I will highly recommend a Remington 597.
Has a better feel than the 10/22, is far more accurate "out-of-the-box", and as it is becoming more popular, there are more "add-ons", if that is your thing.
The only modifications I've done with mine was to change the hammer and extractor to Volquartsen (VQ), which greatly improved the trigger pull and reliability in grabbing the (usually) cheap ammo I run through it.

I am at EESA in 4 minutes!!

LOL!!

Mind you when I lived in Guelph I commuted 1:20 each way to get to EESA. But that was when we were buidling the facility.
