At the end of a few days in Prague as a part of a family vacation - primarily a vacation for my wife and daughter, I'm providing porter and ATM services (you know how it goes). Anyway, did manage to duck away for a few hours this afternoon, and made my way to Mecca, aka the CZ retail shop in Prague.

Very upscale place. Discretely marked entrance, craptons of subtle security (surveillance cams everywhere, clothes in the front, gun displays in the back, polite staff keeping an eye on your every move).

I chatted briefly with a younger English speaking clerk on the gun side of the store. They are aware of Canadian gunny's love of CZ, and the whole reclassification thing. Not sure that they particularly care, per se, we're just not a big enough market for them to lose a lot of sleep over it, but they are aware.

I did manage to convince him to let me take some pics of a few of the display items. Some custom pistols and hunting rifles. They were seriously un-interested in me taking any pics of the new Bren on display, or the '58's. I didn't want to push my luck, so this is what I have for you to look over.

Also picket up a hat and a shirt, for 550 kr (about $28 Cdn).

Anyway, most of you probably care about none of that, so onto the gun pron. Had to crunch these down a fair bit, Hotel Wi-Fi is a bit of a limiting factor getting to my FTP server. Will post higher res once back in Canada, if there's any interest.

You lucky bast... that's awesome. I loved the Czechia lol republic and can't wait to go back. Do not go on the nuclear bunker tour. Love the country's weaponry as well.
 
Glad you're enjoying Prague. When I was visiting last summer, I, unfortunately, did not.
Most unfriendly, unwelcoming people I have ever experienced. The city itself, however, is georgeous.

Hmmm, not sure how to respond to that. Sure it's touristry if you walk into downtown. Next time I go back, I am heading outwards as in the country. Cities are cities. Its how you navigate them that counts.

Hmmm... Wonder what went wrong? I had a great experience in Prague. Polite, nice people for the most part, surprisingly tolerant of my complete lack of knowledge of the local language (Czech is a tongue cracker, I kept on mangling "Děkuji" - thank you - in new and interesting ways).

Every now and then, I'd get someone look at me a bit suspiciously, then warm up when they realized "oh, dumb tourist" and would go out of their way to be genuinely helpful, with no hand out for a tip like in a lot of other places. They seemed genuinely pleased with anyone who's interested in them and their culture and history.

They are going a bit over the top pushing the tourist angle in some cases, and that's going to spoil some of the charm of the Old Town, but so it goes.

Beautiful city indeed. I found that whenever people were unfriendly it was because they thought we were Americans... As soon as they learned we were Canadians their attitudes improved.
 
Next time you are there, just down the road from the CZ Store, back towards the "square" is "Dave's Western Guns" It would seem that the largest growing shooting sport in the Czech Republic is Cowboy Action! Go figure. Also, talk to the owner of the store and ask him who "Dave" is/was.

No different in Frankfurt. Europe is not Canada and I'll bet that in former Iron Curtain countries, people tend to be even more reserved.
