Hello fellow Gun Nutz from Groote Eylandt, a largish island off the eastern coast of Arnhem Land in Australia's Northern Territory. Although hunting on Groote Eylandt is banned by the local indigenous people, the Anindilyakwa, I am lucky enough to be within a short boat trip of Australia's premium buffalo and wild boar, not to mention the vast array of ferals such as donkey, wild dog and horse. There are also Banteng and Sambar, although I am yet to encounter these worthy quarry. Needless to say, my island is surrounded by bountiful waters and produces some the best reef, pelagic and game fishing in all of Australia. There is also some amazing diving, although slightly damped by the presence of large sal####er crocodile and tiger shark.

I literally cut my teeth on rifles, with my father and his before him both being active hunters and target shooters. I was given my first air rifle at 8 years - a .177 BSA Standard, which still inhabits my gun safe today and celebrated it's 100th birthday in 2007.

I am currently honoured to be the elected president of Australian Hunting Net Incorporated, an internet based hunting club which evolved from Australian Hunting Net, a forum founded on many of the same principles I see espoused herein. AHNi has created history by becoming the first internet based hunting organisation of which membership bestows a Valid Reason for firearm ownership in Australia. We now have several club properties and are still looking to expand our battery, as it were.

I look forward to much interesting discussion here, and hope I can contribute some down under perspective of the hunting and shooting passion.

Regards,

Doc J.

It would be fair to say that the build up (to the wet season) is well underway with temps of around 34C and 99% humidity making life pretty sweaty at the moment. Looking forward to the monsoonal troughs moving in and the true deluge to begin. It should drop the temperature to the low 30s, while raining. :)

Here the winter is coming and we are heading soon to -34C temperatures! Welcome aboard!

I was born in the southern climes and put up with the cold (for here) weather until I finished school and was able to travel north. I just didn't like the cold. Now that I'm approaching my second semi-century, I find that the extreme heat isn't so appealing anymore either. I'm currently searching for a nice compromise and seeking work in the central Queensland area.

Welcome aboard, Doc.
For a quick lesson in Canadian gun law, have a look at the Newbie FAQ Section.
The link is in my sigline below.

Cheers,
