Grey Birch Fusion vs V-Block??

Can anyone tell me what they think about the Grey Birch Fusion 10/22 system?

To Me, the threaded barrel, eliminating the need for the V-Block, is the best thing that could happen to the 10/22 platform and I can't see a single drawback apart from having to send it back to GB for barrel changes if you ever wanted one.

Since 22 barrels are good for what 20-30,000rds?, I can't really see this as a drawback.

I am looking to build up a quick handling 10/22 for fun at the range but also Zombie Management and I am having a hard time deciding between that one question.

I know there are 10's of thousands of V-block 10/22's out there and most owners would say they work fine for them and they have never had a V-bock related issue but Ruger or others could have done the threaded barrel long ago....

If you have thoughts or advice in either direction, please share...
 
I think that even if you're playing Lego with the rest of your 10/22 components, once you fit a barrel into a receiver that's probably staying together for good.

I tend to agree.
I am also terribly impatient and I went ahead and ordered a Grey Birch Fusion setup and added their bolt assembly.
Can't wait.
 
That's much of the reason I bought a Fusion. Darn nice package. There's no way I'm ever going to upgrade to a $700 barrel anyway.
Everything else is likely to wear out first or can be swapped out.
 
Yep, and their new chassis incorporate this need.
There's a good youtube video on it.
Really a tiny amount of filing or sanding to open up space for that barrel nut in some stocks.
I think they drop right into the Magpul X-22 but I am not 100% on that.
 
Assuming the barrel fits tight in the receiver I doubt it makes any difference. Installing a tight barrel shank is a PITA, requires heating the receiver and a big mallet.
 
On my Magpul X-22 stock, I had to shave about 0.060" of each side of the stock barrel insert for a proper fit for the barrel nut. Not a big deal. You can use a Dremel or sharp file to do this. This can be done quite easily when the insert is removed from the stock. The action fits really nice and tight in the Magpul stock with the barrel fully floated.

Is the grey birch good to go? My dlask tough 22 receiver was so out of spec(by my measurements) that it's unusable. The mag sits about .020" further down than my factory 10/22 resulting in not even attempting to feed any hollow point ammo.... that was after having to file a substantial amount off the receiver so factory ruger 10rd mags would even think about engaging the front hole. What a waste of good metal.

I bought the Fusion barreled action and the Greybirch bolt. The bolt looks like a Volquartsen bolt. After the modification of the stock to clear the barrel nut, it went together seamlessly. I have a bunch of BX1 Ruger magazines that inserted just fine and dropped free when I hit the release. I've fired about a hundred rounds so far. The action cycles just fine. I used a Ruger BX trigger pack that fit properly as well. Initial accuracy using CCI Standard ammo averages 0.700" at 50y shooting 12 X 5-shot groups. BTW, the picatinny rail has a 20MOA offset.

The barreled action looks better in a real stock. Those GB chassis looks like something my 10 year old would draw with a ruler, just savage lol.
Not sure why they would barrel nut it though, just thread to properly with a shoulder.

I have had very good dealings with the folks at GB.
I am really hoping they develop a carbine interface chassis as i cannot get down with that fusion chassis.
Although if you watch some of the youtube footage of them, they seem to look a lot better in real life.
The number of features it includes for the price is off the hook though.
Arca rail, m-lok, cheek height, LOP, folding, locking. Crazy.

Has anyone tried a GB fusion in an SBI chassis!?
I spoke with the guys at SBI and they were saying they had been hearing from customers who were having fit issues with GB receivers in SBI chassis. But that was before they came up with the fusion.
Right now, the SBI chassis is a front runner for me bc of the RSS that they incorporate but the fit issues some have had give me pause.

Three words - forged Carbon fiber

We are working on a more traditional style looking stock that will be as feature rich as our LaChassis model which was drawn by children.
 
Factory ruger recivers that I have played with are sloppy. When I put my Dlask barrel into my Dlask tuf22 receiver I had to bake the receiver in the oven and press the barrel in. Guess the adjustable v-block I have is for looks now. Hahah.
