Its just a anodizing issue.
It can come times come out grat if the batch is not grounded well.

I don't believe so. They're anodized like any other but LMT uses an extra gray coating of Teflon film.

if that were the case why not use black...

The receiver extensions are anodized and then coated with a dry-film lubricant similer to "EM Lubri-Bond, Air Dry Solid Film Lubricant A Mil-L 23398B Type II" which is used to spray the inside of milspec receivers. It would appear that LMT is chosing to do that to their receiver extensions to allow the SOPMOD stock to slide a little easier as they are a snug fit.

The Dry Film is grey in color.

Boltgun is correct. Some people (I guess it matters to some) remove the dry film lubricant because it bugs them. The receiver extensions are black underneath just like all the other ones on the market... It is definately not an anodizing issue...
