Went out for a quick bear hunt today on the way home from work. Spotted this guy 500 yards down a cut line. Did a quick stalk with the wind swirling around in the wrong direction and got to within 30 yards from him.
I used a 9.3x64 Brenneke with 286g Partitions at about 2500fps. Was able to use my favorite "smack down" shot. Bear was quartering towards me I hit him in the top of the front sholder and bullet exited out the second last rib on the far side. I was shooting down hill a bit and the bullet exited about 1/3 the way up the body. He dropped in his tracks and did not even twitch. Bullet passed just under the spine.
He squares 6'7 1/2. His teeth indicate that he is a fairly young bear for his size.
