I finally went to the local skate shop and got some skateboard tape. Time to do my Shadow grips (got the thin aluminum ones that come with a Shadow Line) and that begs a couple of questions..
1) Does anyone have a link to a good tutorial on how it's done?
2) The grips aren't a flat surface, so do I just stick a larger piece of tape covering everything and then trim or do I just draw the outline of the flat part, punch the holes and stick, leaving a bit of space in the edge area?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me :)

Pictures of your panels would help with further advise.
Also, front and backstraps would benefit from grip tape.

I have a shadow and used grip tape up the front and rear of the grip. Unfortunately I have large hands and cant find any aftermarket grips that are larger in diameter than the stock rubber ones. That being said, the grip tape up the front and rear makes a substantial difference.
Also, grip tape is cheap so dont worry to much about it. Try a couple different options and decide on which ones works best. The joy of the pistol, especially the shadow, is making it perfect for 'you'. Have fun, experiment, and then you will know why you settled on what you decide to use.
Cheers

Hey trazor.....ever considered adding a gasket to your grips? Had a mate with giant paws, he traced around the grips on a thin rubber stock, cut out with a bevel on them and re-fitted.....worked out great for him..

I cut the tape to fit the area minus 1/8" or so.
I cut it so there are no square corners as these are the first areas to fail and lift.
I clean the gun grip with acetone. Then I use a heat gun to preheat the gun grips so they are warm to the touch. Apply the tape and then heat it briefly with the heat gun again. Press the tape down and smooth it out.. Make sure all the edges are tight to the gun.
I like to grab the grip and squeeze it down to be sure the tape is on the way I like.

Ok, got something I can live with.. Tested it and works great for my grip. Also did the (Tanfoglio) mag plates while I was at it.

The gun is trigger-locked because it's going out to play along with the AR later on tonight.

I duct taped the grip, traced out the pattern, took the remainder off, and stuck to the black side of the tape, , you clean the grip with alcohol. for the 3 fingers for the front(G17) of the grip. I made them a 1/4 inch longer so they they go under the palm section . there is youtube videos on it

Damn, that's a great way to make a pattern. Would have saved me lots of fiddling around. Another use for duct tape haha!
