Grip tape

the wooden pistol grip on my 22 is a bit slippery

Skateboard grip tape could work, but it is extremely abrasive, there is different thicknesses and grit.

Skateboard grip tape comes in fine and coarse grits, skateboard shops sell grip tape by the foot. When I worked at them it was usually $5 or so a foot. Wouldn’t be surprised if you walked into on and asked if they had some un used scraps that hadn’t been peeled they would give you some, the fine grip tape won’t shred your hands like the coarse will.

Maybe try a product like “lizard skins”. They make a wrap for hockey sticks and bats and should be perfect for what you want. Head down to a sports store like the source for sports etc and you can see the different thickness of the tape.

Think I paid $12 for a board length of good old jessop brand grip tape from the local board shop 3or 4 years back and I've burnt through maybe half of it on several pistols.

I've used RV step tape and Skateboard tape. It's basically the exact same stuff. Though bear in mind that its not soft tape you can wrap around the whole grip. It's stiff and intended to be placed on flat surfaces. Made a big difference for me though, just make sure the surface is clean if you want it to stick, and keep extra tape handy. It's not permanent, sweaty hands and gun oil will eventually make it lose adhesion. I usually have to reapply the strip on the backstrap and the previous grip panels like twice a year. Everything else lasts pretty well.

Skate board tape I find provides a better purchase but over time the "sand" will wear off with a lot of sweat and use. The rubber stuff is a little more flexible and will last longer.
