Grizzlies come to elk call

Check it out, the bears come roaring in to cow elk call...

To be expected in Grizzly territory. Heed the warning. Is what you hear approaching in the timber what you think it is?

I moved to Alberta a few years ago.
I have concluded that when hunting in griz country, it is prudent to be loaded for bear.
The elk don't seem to mind...
It provides a level of comfort.
And when coupled with a certain humility, we humans can successfully coexist with all of the other alpha predators.
The you miss all the fun of small game hunting. Every year I encounter more senior citizens armed with berry buckets and waking sticks than men with guns. I wonder what they'd think of the average Cgn thread.

So true and these things get embarrassing. I pack in mountain goat hunting supplies all August through the berries in Canada's thickest grizzly population, no gun; I can't afford the weight! And somehow end up fine. Wonder how all the hikers in BC make it.

so do wolves...here in Sk at least...

They're also known to come in to a rifle shot. Had a pack of brazen wolves come in and rip apart a WT doe my buddy shot a few years back.

I hunt in the mountains often alone in the early season chasing elk. I leave my bow straped to my ruck and have shotgun in hand unless actively hunting. Might miss an opportunity at an elk while I'm on the move, but I accept that rather than run into a grizz with only my bow at hand.

That maybe sounded more like a predator call, as opposed to a cow mew, so more likely to attract a bear. Maybe that's splitting hairs a bit. Not saying I'd go test the theory out.

ps: that was not a charge at all they just come for a dinner as thinking an elk was around like for a moose or predator call.

they stopped and looked around. luckily none was shot because in that sequence there is no reason to shoot to kill them.

too far to call that a charge ....
