Grizzly 8.5 +1 Mod? (pic update)

i simply cut the follower down a little and cut the black tube cap retainer part down a little mine holds 3 no problem

I like the sound of this method alot. Care to take a picture maybe? Would certainly help to see how much exactly you removed.

The question is, how far past the dimple does the black tube cap go?

You have some great responses here, however if you,re not doing this mod for customers why would,nt you just drill out the dimples? After all it,s a chinese shotty, will never have collector value and the gun will never know the difference. Cheers, P.

You need to unlock the black ratchet piece by pushing it into the mag tube till it clears the dimples and then turn it 90degrees and let the spring push it out.....

So, anyone know how much of the follower and black retaining cap I have to cut off to fit 3 rounds? I don't want to deface my shotgun if I don't have to. Ya know? :D

i can try to get pics tommorow but i just cut the black one down as short as i could with it still hitting the dimples, (it just comes out when you take the nut off but no big deal it still will hold the nut tight this way) then tryed a shell, it was just a little too tight so i trimmed maybe a 1/8 off the follower

Hey Boots. Pictures would be really helpful. How is it cycling with the third round? Any binding issues?

well i appear to have lost my camera lol i have yet to have an issue however, ive tryed ghost loading a 4th and have had some trouble with that but the three in the tube are no problem

The simplest way to add 1 more is take out the plastic follower and replace it with a metal one then take the extra plastic follower out that will prevent it from getting stuck on the dimples as the plastic one can get hung up and now you have 3 rounds instead of 2.

It seems to work sometimes with the plastic one and sometimes it will load the first round and get stuck.

Maybe a phone picture? I was just wondering for reference. Doesn't need to be scientific. :)

I did exactly the same thing and put it up on the thread a long time ago. Holds 3, 2 3/4" in the mag tube no problem and one in the chamber. Just be carefull not to cut too much off the follower and the tube cap retainer, then you can still utilize the dimples so the cap retainer does not rotate in the mag tube when its pushed down while putting on the mag cap while assembling then the cap retainer still locks the cap so it is secure and will not loosen under recoil. I also did a mod to the fore end so the schnobel won't beat the hell out of my hand that pumps the action anymore, oh the sights are another must, out to 25 yds or 50 yds with slugs it is way more dependable in accuracy now. Dalask Arms make a very nice 8.5" shotgun but Joe is quite the guy and did excellent work on my cheapo Grizzly for me even though I did not buy his gun. He made the front sight out of bar stock and saw three more that were left. He is a true gentleman, thanks Joe. The length of my tube cap retainer is cut down to 3/4" and the follower length is now 3/8"ths the follower has groves to marry up with the dimples as well. Now when I remove it for cleaning I invert the tube and fiddle by turning it till it falls out, no big deal. Grinding and pounding are moot now so you don't have to beat the crap out of your magazine. Hope this helped. I also have the Messa and Tac Star shell holders to hold a total of 10 on the gun and 4 in it for my bug out piece or leaning against the tree while cutting wood up at the ranch. Hope this was a help.
