Grizzly 8.5" question

pondering the purchase of an 8.5" and wondered about max shell capacity.
i seem to recall owners couldn't quite fit a third shell into the tube.
is there a mod for fixing this, ...a custom follower, shorter tube spring, etc.?

p.s. and where have all the 8.5" tube feds gone?
they seem to fly off the shelves.
you'd think CanAm and others would keep 'em coming in, eh?

I believe that if you use a Dlask "Happy Cap" you'll get the extra round in - as well as prove to everyone that you're the most sarcastic guy on the range.

His website still shows the "happy Cap" as SOLD OUT.

Which is a shame, as I'd like to buy one.

Hello op,

I used a socket that fit tight into the mag tube with a socket extension to hold onto it and a brass punch to swedge out the factory spring retainer dimples. You put the socket in a bit further each time till the tube walls are smooth. Then I discarded the factory spring retainer and cut a coil off the spring. I used a old style 870 spring retainer and a new S&J follower. The old style spring retainer was a bear to get in because the mag tube is a slightly different diameter but It did workout. You just have to make sure you don't spring yourself in the face when installing or removing it.

Then I ordered/drilled/installed a magazine cap detent/spring and staked it into the barrel ring. I used a blank happy cap for the end but you could use the factory cap just drill a few dimples in it where the cap & detent line up, factory police 870 cap or use a 1100/1187 wave washer and your cap the way it is. I preferred the police detent route. Holds 3 in the tube now with no issues. It is nicer with the extra round capacity.

Dlask showed they were out of stock and I called to inquire when they would be restocked and ended up getting a blank one like I wanted. Call them you may get lucky like I did.
