Grizzly 8.5 use for clays, it shoot good...

Back in the day, I did a little skeet shooting with my $300 Mossberg Police model. I was doing about as well as the guys with much longer, more expensive guns.

I'm not sure why anybody not shooting at the top levels of competition needs a shotty that costs thousands of dollars, except maybe for bragging rights. I'd rather shoot a cheap gun well than pay a ton for something that does no better on the range.

Well, perhaps you should have signed up for a few competitions.

Nope....I wasn't that good, and I didn't aspire to being that good either. However I was doing about as well as the guys who claimed to be good wing shots and regularly hunted ducks and grouse, and they had some pretty nice double guns to show off too.

I have no doubt that serious competitors can justify the money they spend on their equipment. But I'm just as sure that they'd hit _very_ well, even with a cheap, short barreled pump gun...and that's my point. You can do more with a short shotgun than people might expect if you give it a determined try.

Very true - a good wingshooter can use most any shotgun to do the job, as long as it fits so that point of aim equals point of impact. And I'm sure you do realize why shooters buy expensive guns.

BTW, how loud was your gun compared to the others?

Not more loud but for a split second you loose the picture du to the big ball of fire, my friend was saying to me that it was quite impressive to see the ball of fire, we have to do that at night, should be fun... Cheers. JP.

I'm going to make the numbers up for simplicity of understanding, but I think it goes something like this:

Lets say 20" barrel will give a 18 inch wide pattern at 20 yards. That's 9 inches for every 10 yards.

So, a 10 inch barrel would give you an 18 inch pattern at 10 yards and a 27 inch pattern at 20 yards.

Same pattern, but the 10" barrel starts opening up 10 inches quicker than the 20 inch barrel....

DEERP... That's confusing. I think a MSPaint picture is in order....

Again, totally made up numbers.... I'm just trying to say that I think there is some sort of correlation between the length and spread; that it's probably some sort of ratio/equation. Also, that with #8 shot, the pellet count is sufficiently high such that the spread doesn't matter too much when it comes down to busting clays. The odds that one (one is all it takes) will hit the clay within 50yards is pretty high regardless of barrel length...Could be totally wrong. I recall reading this somethere. Might be an interesting test for someone to try! hehe.

Your numbers and logic are bogus. You can't calculate spread from looking at barrel length.. Two are TOTALLY unrelated.

The only thing i am sure is i am a 21-22 clays on 25 with my Beretta and on my 2 sessions with the 8.5 i did 21-22 score... so i conclude that the lenght of the barrel did not do worst or better than my long shotgun, the only thing you have to adjust is the speed of your swing, this 8.5 is really qwick in the front so you have to slow down and wait for the clay... Cheers. JP.
