Grizzly attack while Moose calling

Usually happens to elk bow hunters here in AB...if you pretend to be a food group you may be on the menu.......Harold

I have seen fawn in distress calls work amazingly well on Kodiak for bear but you never blind call with it and always watch your back while trying to call in a bear you have spotted.

I walked about 2 miles on Saturday morning to get into a nice meadow for moose. Just where I was going to call from I spotted a grizz track in last night's snow. Very dissapointed, but thought discretion was the better part of valour and left. Didn't relish the thought of carrying meat out of there all day, knowing there was a grizz not far away.

There are times and places where it is not smart to hunt alone.

Grizz

After we finished up cleaning & loading the moose my bud shot, we were standing in front of our trucks at about 10:30pm when we told the shooter to try and replicate the sound the cow & bigger bull(not the one that was shot, bigger one back in the bush) were making! He tried, 5 seconds later a branch snapped about 40yds into the bush. We weren't worried about any grizzlies but a bull moose will do some damage! We laughed and Brent said, we better watch our backs!
BTW he said he couldn't replicate the noises the cow was making, all kinds of wired pitches. Bull in the bush after the shot was quick grunts.

Calling in the Moose - cool. Calling in the Bear - not cool. Exhilarating - provided it buggers off. Been there done that a couple of times so far. What's that you hear approaching in the timber?
