Grizzly bullet for 30-06

I put a 165 grain Accubond through about 3 feet of elk this past September, on a frontal 100 yard shot, which dropped the bull. It center punched the chest and exited towards the rear of the ribs. Muzzle velocity 2840 fps  :p

Dont use the 168 grain nosler acubond,I shot a dall sheep at 140 yards 3 times in the armpit and it would have gotten away if I had not taken my 180 grain tripple shock and finished it off. The acubond came apart.Muzzle Vel. 2860.

I think there is more to this story than what is written. Would like to read the whole story.

30 cal Accubonds do not come in 168 grain persuasion, only 165. Perhaps those bullets were 168 grain CT Ballistic Silvertips? I have used the Accubond to shoot several head of game so far, and have not seen the results you describe. Mine were going faster than 2860 as well, and one shot was only 60 yards. i like to use RWS factory ammo.
my favorite bullet is the TIG or H-Mantle.
you want three things:
break the sholder,
penetration into the chamber
and an exit wound.
i did take a number of bears with both bullets with great success, never lost an animal.

I recently asked this question in an email to both Nosler and Barnes, only for a 300wsm calibre.

Barnes replied 180 TSX.

Nosler said either 180 Partition or 180 Accubond.

I have been hearing a few stories lately about Accubonds not penetrating, even on deer shoulders. Hopefully its just a very small percentage as I bought a box of them and 165 TSX a while back to handload.

My top choice would be the 180 TSX.

Jack O'Connor spoke of a Game Warden in Alaska who took a lot of Grizzly with his .270 loaded with 160 grain Bullets, or was it 180's anyways enought rambling just saying that it appears that you dont' need a cannon ball to kill them. Self defense at close range is another story.

with an "ought six" I would use a good long bullet. 200-220 gr. range. All you have to do is point the rifle in right direction......(and hope for the best)
