I plan on purchasing a Specops folding stock for my 8.5" Grizzly (link below). I want a lighter camp gun and the recoil reduction this stock offers. I also want the shotgun to remain a non-restricted so I plan to permanently disable the folding mechanism on the SpecOps stock in a way that will render it a non-folder permanently.

So, question: any problems with that idea? I don't want this camp gun to suddenly become a prohib or a restricted shotgun just because I went and put a new stock on it. Do I need to measure it overall to be 26" to keep it that way?

Thanks for any tips!

Seems reading comprehension is in short supply today.

To answer the OP's question, if you do as you describe it will remain non-restricted as long as it is 26" OAL or greater. Just be sure to do a decent job on the stock mod so some determined CO or cop can't force it to fold without damaging it.

You might also want to see my thread about the 8.5" lobbing slugs if you plan to use this gun for defense. The bead sight sits very low due to the barrel taper and throws shots very high. Practice or a modified front sight is highly recommended.

Nice, thanks for that reply AK. Indeed, I was thinking of welding the part closed permanently. All I want is a lighter SG, overall the Griz is HEAVY so something must be done.

I would be happy to see your solution to your modified front sight as well. It does indeed shoot high!

the spec ops folder is folded by squeezing the wires together to disengage the folding lock right? if so, and if its a straight hole through the block that it folds on, then maybe pulling the wires off and placing a small section of round stock in the hole to prevent the wires from squeezing might do it. It would also allow you to undo the mod if you ever wanted to swap it onto a longer gun. Interesting idea though, I like it. So long as it can not fold theres no reason why it would not be legal. Another note though, I handled an 870 express tactical with both spec ops stocks and found the wire folder most uncomfortable on the shoulder as only one wire contacts your shoulder, the low surface area seems as though it would nearly cancel out any recoil reduction discomfort wise. Just my thoughts, let us know how it goes

i use the reg specops on the 8.5. The folder will work on 12.5 min length requirements, The 15" will work with most folders.
