Grizzly mag fed. Thoughts?

I was thinking about getting the Mag fed Grizzly shotgun with a 18.5 inch barrel. Just wanted to hear from some of the guys that have em. Reliability seems good and it's in the cheaper side so that is also a plus. What parts would you recommend replacing? Any and all input is welcome.
 
They are great shotguns for the price! I'm a huge fan of my 12" barrel, but you can't go wrong with an 18.5". Out of the box they are useable, but cleaning up the internals (polishing and removing sharp edges) goes a long way. First thing I'd replace is the furniture.. not a fan of the factory forends as I've had a few of them crack.
 
I have the twelve inch and love it. They are on sale until tomorrow. For two hundred you can't go wrong and if you don't like it I'm sure you'll get your money back on EE.

I ran twenty five round of OO buck last weekend with only one ftf with the aftermarket crap mags. Had a sore shoulder for a few days.

Just make sure you buy one other small item to put you over two hundred so you get free shipping.
 
I've got exactly what the OP is asking about and it's a great shotgun. Notice I said great shotgun, not great shotgun for the price.

I use it for 3-Gun as it's a hell of a lot faster to swap those 5 round mags out than to single (or double) load a tube-fed pump or semi.

Granted, the finish isn't the greatest and it looks like it's been buried for 30 years, but the damned thing still works just fine - which is all I care about with it.

OP you can't go wrong with this one.
 
I've had a couple of Grizzlies (still have my bead sight 12.5") and a buddy had the mag-fed one. He told me not all the mags ran perfect, but the problem ones took little to get running perfectly. (he didn't elaborate, I didn't ask) I've had lots of 870s come and go, still have a couple...but I do dig the Grizzlies. Heavier than they should be, a little rough around the edges...but fun guns for the $ if you ask me. Like the SKS of the shotgun world~you could show a new shooter a Citori, a BPS, a Wingmaster, a nice Benelli, a Grizzly...guess which one they'll want to shoot first? lol

What to replace? The furniture isn't great, but functional. The forends I find to be a bit slippery no matter what the conditions, with or without gloves. A Hogue is a very nice improvement for $25

The aftermarket mag springs are to long, compare the stock mag spring and you should notice the length difference. I trimmed the aftermarket springs to match and they now work fine.

I've also polished the followers and feed lips on all my mags on a buffing wheel, really helped smooth things out. Did the same to the action bars and bolt body, opened up and polished the feed ramp on the barrel to a mirror finish. The action is smooth as silk now.
 
My 18.5 works well. More I shoot the smoother it gets. What the heck is the spring doing in the mag tube?
Forward assist? How does it hook on to the forend?
My factory steel and poly mags run 100%
 
I got a grizzly mag fed, and it works like its suppose to. I had a Hp9 rem 870 and you could cycle it Faster.
Its a good working cheap novelty gun. Go buy one.
 
Agreed more of a novelty than anything. Cheap enough and works. I find it a bit heavy for the size though (14").
 
Not sure I'd use mine for bear defence... But I really like it nevertheless.

The few quirks that had to be dealt with
- Ejector needed to be re-staked after hundreds slugs. Been working good ever since
- Finish is on the tin side, will be refinish with Duracoat... eventually.
- The ejection was somewhat smaller that my 870 and it caused the odd FTE. Some time with files... all is good now.

As for the magazines. There's a post on here somewhere on how to tweak them.
I think the 12.5'' looks good. I'd like to get a 8.5''... and that one of a kind 6.5'' is just the cutest little thing!
