So I was just sitting here wondering what Grizzly tastes like. I eat black bear meat and love it. Anyone ever eaten both and can let me know what the difference is, if any. And how grizzly compares to any other meat? Thanks.

Most bears eat greens right after coming out of the den. Lots of grasses, clover, some plant shoots. All the black bear meat I've had has been great. The family actually prefers it to *elk*! (go figure!). I haven't had grizzly but they go after greens when they get out of the den just as much. Taste the same?

Our bears on the coast rival the rotting salmon for aroma, I dropped off Dogleg's coastal grizzly with the taxidermist, and the first person that walked by the wrapped up skin remarked, "Whoa... Fish bear hey?"

I'm sure it would make fantastic cat food and crab bait. When they're not eating salmon they're turning rocks on the beach, or briefly on the berries, but not long enough to help I'm afraid.

Local joke but a good one. The two grizzly's on display, one in Smithers Airport and one in tourist booth in Houston, are father and son, this established through a DNA check. The joke is the one in Houston has a salmon hanging out of his mouth. Well it should be a beef steak. These guys were feeding on cattle between Smithers and Houston which why they were shot. CO's put down the one in Smithers, not sure how Dad got his comeuppance in Houston. Might be an interesting taste test, fish bear over a grain/beef fed one?

Black bears are teasty as long as they don't feed at the dump. No clue about grizz... one day I hope.

Would be interesting to compare coastal griz vs interior mountain griz.

After skinning a couple grizzlies I don't think there is any way I would eat one. If the taste is half as bad as the smell Its still very very bad. that said I eat 2 black bears a year. Smoked bear ham sandwiches are a thing of beauty

I imagine that grizzlys are eating a higher proportion of meat than black bears. Fish, marmot, carrion and the occasional large catch of black bear or moose calf.
That should make grizzly taste somewhat bad to us, like rotten meat.

Coastal grizzly and black bear both taste fishy. Interior black bear and grizzly that don't dine on fish both taste very similar. Both types of bear eat carrion, newborn moose, elk, deer, other bears and berries and plants. I've only seen grizzlies go after marmots, but that dosn't mean black bears don't, too. Marmots must taste like candy to grizzlies, considering the effort they go to dig them up.
