grizzly with knoxx, issues

I have a grizzly 870 copy upon which I installed a knoxx specops stock, it works fine with trap loads. I recently fired it with 2 3/4" 1oz remington slugs and the action opens every time....that is when I pull the trigger from any position, from a bench with a bag immediatly in front of the action, slide not touched, or hand held/shoulderfired, consiously trying to hold the slide forward, the action is open without me moving the slide, the spent shell laying on the carrier. I fired three rounds, not being sure what happened the first time and will not shoot these loads again until the problem is fixed.

I called the dealer and he was receptive to the problem but suggested it might be caused by the recoil dynamics of the specops stock. Has anyone else with this combination had this problem, or has there potentially been damage done from overloading this action?
 
I believe it's caused by the recoil dynamics. Mine does it as well. Even tried it one handed to see if it was me. Nope, kicked open the action. I just consider it my semi auto pump action :p :rockOn: .

it is normal and not dangerous, with every remington slug gun that i have installed and adjusted in the field every one of them was doing the same thing, it is the inertia of the pump that pull the action rearward. just remember that the bigger the slug you're gonna fire, the more ig's going to open, buckhammer 3" rock.
 
My Remmy 870 does the same with the SpecOps stock. Can it hurt the gun when the bolt/pump assembly is thrown rearward by a 2 3/4 or 3 inchs slug?

I wrote the company with the question and they have supplied the response below...I fibbed a bit and said it was a remington, didn't feel like explaining what a grizzly is.

I wrote

"I have one of your specops stocks installed on a rem. 870. When firing light loads such as trap or "field" loads it functions properly. However, when firing heavy loads such as slugs, the action opens every time, the empty hull sitting on the cartridge carrier, the action essentially jammed. I presume the action is opening during the recoil phase as the stock moves and in this case the pressure has not dissipated causing the ejector to slip off the shell in the action's partially unlocked state.
I have contacted the vendor of the firearm and he informs me this is common with your stock and to switch back the the factory stock. An enquiry on a firearms website has led me to the understanding this is indeed common with your stock from several other users. I am concerned in several areas, not the least of which is that I would like to continue to use your product but obviously cannot in such a condition. To have an action open uncommanded is concerning as well as it opening and jamming for the next shot.
Is there a fix for this problem or is the gun destined to only use light loads, with the concern that it may malfunction at any time?"

The advice you are receiving is inaccurate. The force of the larger rounds is emphasizing that the forend hand is not being locked forward. During the recoil cycle the shotgun moves rearward and if the forend is not locked forward the mass weight of the forend will drive action open. This occurrence can be overcome by focusing on good shooting fundamentals or it can actually be used as a speed advantage during cycling. Please remember that Remington endorses the stock and installs them at the factory as a factory option.

Have Spec-ops on Grizzly and Fabarms 14" sdass and have not had this issue at all no matter what type or length of round.

I had a Spec-Ops on a shorty and I had the exact same "problem"... except mine was a little worse.

My action was so silky smooth and fast that when the bolt flew back after firing (and not holding the fore-end properly) the next shell in the tube would not eject onto the carrier (which sucked big time!)

The mag fed Grizzlies would not have this problem... so I want one bad.
 
I've had no issues with with 3 different 870's. I have 2 Dlask shorties and an 870 Tac-2, all with SpecOps or SpecOps folder. I'v enever had an action open up. I'll watch more closely.
 
Hah, I've seen guys using their left hand like a tripod under the forend.

It's a bloody cannon you hold in front of your face. Hang on to the damn thing and you'll have less issues with your gun.

Wonder why shooters get hit in the face?
 
If the action on your 870 is smooth you will experience the problem if you shoot one-handed (with knoxx spec-ops stock installed).

Because there is nothing holding the bolt forward after firing... the physics of the the recoil with the spring action of the Knoxx-spec-ops will cause the bolt to cycle (again, due to a smooth cycling 870 and not holding the fore-end properly or at all).

If you have a "gritty-tight-binding" 870 you might not experience this under these circumstances.

My 870 could "almost" cycle by jerking the shotgun back and forth while holding the pistol grip only; that smooth.
