Im trying to decide if I want to purchase a treestand or ground blind for the upcoming season. Part of me is thinking a ground blind may be more practicle as I will have more areas in which I can utilize it. Although I like being up in a tree stand also.

I want to spend some money and get either a good blind or good tree stand instead of getting both and going cheap. Which do you guys prefer? Tree stand or blind?

Any suggestions on makes and models you have found that have served you well over the years is also welcome suggestion.

I like the ground blind especially when the weather turns bad. Nothing like sitting in the dry tent drinking tea and eating cookies. I have even gone to sleep a couple of times. You can't get more relaxed than that.

if you have a good area to put a tree stand up go with it I think they are much better than a ground blind but I'm sure there will be people that do well from the ground

I use both...there is nothing like being on the same level as the game you are hunting...But come archery season, if the winds arent cooperating, or the deer are being overly pressured, I will hunt from the stand

Tree stands give you an edge by improving your view of your surroundings and keeping your scent up off the ground, but hunting on the ground is so much more in-your-face and intense that I rarely ever use treestands anymore. I also like to spend all day on stand, from dark till dark, and having your feet on the ground makes this a lot easier and more comfortable.

I much prefer the hub-style blinds to the folding-spring-steel-hoop jobs. They seem easier to put up and much more stable.

Whichever choice you make, count on having more than one.

Buy a nice self climber for the trees and some cheap camo netting for the ground, don't move and play the wind and you will win even from the ground....

i kind of cheated a bit and made up something to have the luxury of both;)

I find it a disadvantage to be on the ground with game coming in close proximity. The way you hunt and more importantly the terrain you hunt will dictate what you should use, this is not personal preference but logistics of the terrain that dictate choices. As an example in my prefered deer hunting area I will be up about forty feet to have an advantage over the thick underbush this will give me a huge advantage compared to being on the ground where my visibility is maybe 20 yards, on more open terrain the ground blinds are great but placement is of paramount importance because in our experience your scent is very easily picked up by approaching game from downwind.
Good Luck

Hey, OP, thanks for posting this question! Am getting lots of good info and ideas as well from the guys posting. Keep it coming, guys! Great stuff. :D

Are you gun hunting or bow?A tree stand can give a gun hunter sometimes limitless distance to game (360 any direction)a ground blind not always! Seeing them first is easier from tree stand!my 4 cents

I am bow hunting and I have found I have had good luck in both a blind and a stand, people seem to be leaning towards a stand

To the OP. What kind of hunter are you.

Do you move a lot, get fidgety, afraid or nervous of heights, fall asleep? These lend themselves to a ground blind. I've tried sitting in trees and it doesn't work for me. Have had equal success to tree stand hunters I know while sitting down wind of a game trail in a folding chair behind a bush or tree.
