I dont think this has been covered. Whats your opinion, im thinking of changing to a ground blind. I have a climbing stand that i use and its to loud to get up /down and not comfortable at all. That or i may build an ice hut in the trees.

I have a Doghouse blind and like it a lot. You are out of the wind, rain, and snow and for the most part deer walk right on by with little notice. I have even had coyotes come within 50 yards and not even notice me. I don't use it all the time, but it is nice for nasty weather.

I much prefer hunting out of a ground blind. Sitting up in a tree, despite its many advantages, seems to feel almost like you are watching TV, somehow divorced from the action. When you're on the ground it all feels much closer and more exciting, more like you are participating rather than just observing.

The fact that I don't like heights may also have something to do with it.:D

I bought a ground blind due to not having 4 trees close enough to build a stand and I hate heights anyways. My wife so far likes to go sit in it and read.

I hunt from both. In my area the deer tend to hang back in the brush a bit longer early in the season. I use a tree stand then close to the bait. By the end of Sept they seem to travel a bit more into the fields and don't hit the bait as much. This is when I'll switch to my dog house blind because it is fast and easy to set up and all I have to do is try to figure out where they will come out and set up accordingly.

The dog house blind is my favourite. I can move it anywhere and it is much more comfortable especially when the wind gets a little cold or it is raining.

Curious about those ghillie suits as well Does anyone use them in bow season ?

If so how do you set up and how does it work in regards to drawing for the shot and not getting busted ?
