Typically, are there many gophers/ground squirrels around Blackfalds and Red Deer. I've 'hunted' only down south towards Lethbridge, but have a chance to visit north next spring, instead

Worth changing locations?

Thanks.

Actually gophers are experiencing a massive die-off in a lot of Ab. You can drive many miles of hiways in Ab. and not see a dead gopher were as five or six yrs ago the dead critters were 10 to a mile most places. I know that east of Red Deer there are a very few small pockets of gophers but for the most part are very scarce.

It would seem that a gopher die-off would be somewhat innocuous but us and our other rural neighbors have noticed a significant change in the predator habits of local wildlife since they have no gophers for their easily acquired foods. Farm yard dogs and cats are being taken regularly by coyotes, hawks and owls.
