Groundhog shoot in near Montreal (Mirabel) area - looking for people !

Maybe someone could figure out a cheap way of getting Eastern shooters
out west in large numbers to help the Western farmers out
with their prairie dog problem.

:D The only way I see is if AirCanada make a very very very good special for each shooter going there and back lets say from Trudeau (Dorval) or Pearson airports during some specific period of time.

Vincer,

What they are shooting out West are "spermophiles" (stop giggling, children). Here, we shoot "marmottes" (siffleur). You can burn through a barrel shooting those western critters - 100's per day. A "group" hunt for our "marmottes", while nice for the camaraderie, won't be very productive. Anything over 5 and you'd be doing very well.

agreed..spot a hog, bang, all the others go underground for an hour or so. Walking a railway line might be a little more productive.

In Alberta, do you not need a small game license to hunt?

Negative. You can just grab a .22 or small bore center fire if the terrain allows and have at 'er.

looch

Yeah I grew up in Ottawa and shot my share of those marmottes. Those are dead simple to hit. Try hitting a 2 inch wide 10 inch tall (if they're standing) target at 200 to 300 yrds out.
THATS shooting. .204 and .223 Vmax's detonate REAAAL good.

Uhhh....well rather than you guys comin out here and shootin up our game....let us westerners trap a few pairs of productive richardson ground squirels and send them to you.
Let em breed for a few years to create more, turn 'em loose and watch em grow!!! lol

Excellent idea.
It worked for the coyote population here in Ont and Newbrunswick.
So send the ground squirels and the ferrel hogs while your at it.
Let me know when they are comming, and i will stay home
and sign for them.:D

In Mirabel, how far a shot are we talking? Is a .22 rimfire enough or is it at centerfire distances? I don't have a varmint rifle but I can reload my 6.5X55 with lighter bullets. It could make for some interesting hits.:)

I'd be surprised if they ever found land owners to comply with this kind of hunt. The only liklihood of this happening is if a CGNer who owns land asked some of us to go.
