With all the threads about poppin' groundhogs I figured I would share my own.

The reasoning for the 'Must See' title is the hog on the right. He is a friggin' monster. He weighed close to 15 pounds.

All were shot between 80 and 350 yards with my Model 700 in .223
Ammo are handloads. Hornady 52gr BTHP Match pushed by 27gr of Varget. Win brass and Federal SR primers.
As you can see, they do the job. As long as the bullet touches, it's deader than dead. The big one was shot at roughly 170 yards and he took off like a bird. Did a nice backflip in the air and then thundered into the ground. He could have won an Olympic event with perfect form and height like he did.

This place is literally spewing hogs. I was turkey hunting the property the other day and had 6 hogs pop up within 30 yards. Before heading in for lunch I let one have it at 10 yards. An ounce and a half of #5's out of an extra full choke does the job!

JESUS those are some big earthpigs ... our local ground squirrels are called SIKSIK's ... they're babies compared to these monsters ... wow ... :D

They are effing huge. The only bigger ones I see are the ones that live at the University of Guelph. I guess they dine on thrown out fast food and Kraft Dinner from the hippes that live on campus.

Believe me I tried. His arms were just too fat and stubby.

Worth the picture but there was a ton of blood on my stock and a bunch on my glass from trying other positions.

I tried to get another one to stand up at the muzzle with his arms in the air but rigor had set in.

Disgusting! I am sending this to P.E.T.A.! :p :nest:

I condone any and all people who send these pictures to PETA.

Please inform me before hand so that you can send my personal address along with the pictures.

savage112 - It's a possibility. Send me a PM.

"...his right paw up by the trigger guard..." LOP is too much.
"...can't use the pelts for something..." Ground hog fur is very thin. The only use for the hides is to teach yourself how to tan hides. Most shooters just stuff 'em back down the hole.

Awesome dirt pigs.
When I lived in Ottawa I used to go to a farm just minutes out of the city and pop off a few doz. marmots in a day. Great fun.

I just went out to my latest gopher patch on sunday with my buddy. He smacked *2* babies with 1 shot with my .204. It was HILARIOUS!!! These things were no bigger than large mice, and he bagged them at about 120 yrds. They flew like Superman
