This topic has puzzled me for some odd reason (and its probbaly about the simpelest question out there
). Usually when I am shooting on a day with absolutely no wind, and where I can usually rule conditions out of the equation (and for the most part human error), I will be shooting at 50 yards and my groups will usually be in the 1/4" range but yet when I go to 100 yards my groups will open up to 3/4" inches for 5 shots or so.
Now, a rifle that will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, from my experiences will not be able to group 1 inch at 100 yards.
Now theoretically, is this supposed to happen...? If a rilfe groups 1/4" at 50 yards and you rule all conditions/human error out of the equation will it shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards?? From my experiences absolutely not but what have you guys found?
Maybe its just me.. maybe not. You would think that if the ammo can shoot .25 groups it would open up to just twice the size at 100.
Maybe it could be just this simple...: When you shoot a subsonic round, say Lapua superclub for example it has dropped very little at 50 yards, maybe an inch or two and at 100 yards it has dropped maybe 8.5 inches. Maybe this group size happens because say at 25 yards or so it really starts to drop off, and the further it gets the more dramatic the drop... And a 20fps variance in normal FPS would only cause it to drop say 1/2" at 50 but maybe 1 1/2" or more at 100?
This would also be why the .17 shoots good at 50 and 100, about half the size at 50.
I am more just talking out loud here
... What have you guys found for group size hundred verses 50 yards???
