Hi I want to start competitive shooting but I dont want to show up and be the worst guy their.So what should I be aiming at to fall in the middle of the pack.Right now I got a 223 that I can shoot between .3(best) and .7(worst) moa to 300y. Is this good enough to start competing and be competitive.

The new ICFRA target has a .4MOA V-Bull and .8MOA Bull so you most definitely could be competitive. It all comes down to how well you can read the conditions.
If your club uses DCRA targets then the dimensions open up to .5 and 1 MOA

I would add to Richard's comments that your rifle, if under 18 pounds and shot from a bipod, would fall into a separate class calld "F-Restricted", meaning that you would not be competing directly with ultra-accurate 6BR Customs, only 223 and 308. You would stand an excellent chance of doing well. ...and as someone eho has been there, being dead last is nothing to be ashamed of. Your results are as much about skill as they are luck some days, and frankly, I prefer good luck!!

F Class starts at 300, and goes back to 1000. I have shot my 223 all the way back to 1000, with no problem.
FClass is a combination of an accurarate rifle/load and reading the wind. Sicne most of us have accurate rifles, it is really a wind reading issue.
make sure you are shooting 80 grain bullets. Anything lighter will dance in the wind.

No more of an issue than the other .223's and .308's he would be shooting against.
Attention- Dan probably won't respond until next week, as he's very busy w/ the national matches in Ottawa right now. As others have said, you group sizes are plenty good to come out and see how you do in matches. The Atlantic Chmpionships are at CFB Gagetown on Labour Day weekend. Load up a bunch of ammo and come on out to play.

Seriously bud, these events are generally not attended by 500 "Expert" shooters. They are attended by tens of great guys that are - or were - in the same shoes as you. You would be welcomed with open arms and I guarantee one of the club guys would make sure you were completely oriented to what is happening and would be there to make sure you had the time of your life!

Just get out there. I imagine everyone starts near the bottom (I just placed second last) but you learn so much just by being there that you should bring a note book.
