Grouping Frustration

A lot of variables come together for your accuracy to be what it is. I know mine goes to sh*t when I'm tired, among other things.

I'm a "practical" shooter, so if I'm hitting the A-zone (or COM), it's all good...

I shoot relatively fast too, so I don't expect superb accuracy. ;)

distance - 15 yards
at 15 yrds - I normally average 3-4inch groupings - with a winger or 2.
Using my S&W M&P40.

My friend handed me a Glock .45 - my groupings were dramatically smaller, and more circular. It was noticeably tighter on the paper.

its just frustrating to pick up a buddy's pistol - and fire it better than your own... (I shot 30rnds - just to be sure)

anyone have an explanation - other than "I suck" - lol

It was the grip angle and shape help control the muzzle. The first time I shot my Glock and the grouping are smaller then my 75B. sometime ugly gun shoot not so ugly...

There is a tendency to be a better shooter with an unfamiliar gun because you're more conscious of what you're doing. Your M&P feels familiar, so you go on "autopilot" and you are less conscious of the grip, the sights, the trigger take up, and the release. I had an experienced PPC shooter fire my M&P when I was struggling with it, the result - he drilled out the x ring (dead centre) at 15 yards, handed it back to me and said, "nice trigger, it's not the gun"

So, what do you do? Back to basics, slow down and get to the point where you're comfortably accurate with the gun (your comfort level)Then speed up in increments. Oh yes, and there are some great drills at pistol-training.com

I agree with enefgee
I had a guy in our ppc club shoot my M&P 9 when i first got it and I still haven't been able to do what he did at 25m
And for the weight discussion earlier weight is better for recoil I feel.
Ammo will have a affect on you groupings too (it really makes a difference at 25 and 50m and I have tested it on a ransom rest)
Change the back strap to one you don't usually use to give it a different feel in the hands and get the brain off auto pilot with that gun.

Your shooting for groups with a Glock and a M&P???

Come back when you've shot groups with a target/accurate pistol.

Thanks for your words of wisdom... It will help all those who read it.
I appreciate you answering my question.

To everyone else - I've learned a few fundamentals in regards to grip, and follow through.

I'm pleased to say that I have IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY with my M&P.40.
Went out this morning - no wingers. All A's from 10,15, & 20 yrds.

Now I want to practice speed+accuracy. :)

Cheers
