I picked up a savage 300mag 111 package replaced the rings and scope. It's a 3-9x40 4200 elite. I have been trying to sight it in using win super x power point 150/180. Does anyoneknow what kind of groups this set-up in capable of?

If anything that ammo, will be the limitting factor. Scope mounted properly, off of a good rest, you should be right around, maybe a little over 1 inch. Keep your brass, and reload the same brass, necksize only, using better bullets, you'll probably be around .6-.75" maybe a little better. All of this assumes you are up to the challenge. I hope the 300WM isn't your first rifle, it was mine, it beat the crap out of me for a while before I learned how to use it.

Let the barrel cool between shots. 300WM heats up a barrel quickly, and the thin barrel may start to warp as it heats up.

DEFINITELY!!!

Do not take more than 1 shot per minute, or more than 5 shots in a row. If you are shooting groups, 1 per minute is the quickest you want to do it. If the barrel is too hot to hold onto, it's too hot. It's fine to practice a quick follow-up shot, now and then. But 300WM is not a blasting away round. If you want to go BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG, buy an SKS. You may have already known that, but it can't be overstated. My shooting buddy watched a guy pretty much wreck his brand new 300 by running a couple boxes through it all at once, trying to zero his scope. He'd take a shot, adjust the scope, take another shot, adjust the scope, etc. The barrel kept getting hotter, throwing shots everywhich way. He finally stopped when the receiver was too hot to put his face near it.
My Buddy thought guy was shooting an old Lee Enfield, trying to pretend he was in the war. He was shocked to find out guy had a 300. And had put 140 rounds through it the previous day, and was over 100 for that day, all that and he couldn't get the scope zeroed

Sometimes the barrel feels warm but just warm. I am at my friends farm and i basically fire a shot at 100 yards then walk down check it then repeat. I am definatly into learning how to reload. I have been looking at some books and information on the internet. I'm not sure how the best way to go about starting.. I have seen kits to get a guy started.. What do you think? It would be nice to achieve better groups and bring cost down. Thanks for your time.
