Does anyone like Grouse hunting with a nice shotgun as much as I do? Something about taking a grouse on the wing is strangely satisfying. I've hunted them with .22 but it's just not as nice :D

Decided to take a break for awhile from big game. Took 5 out of the flock of 7 then went another 50 yards up the trail and got another 5.

The 5 of us ate like kings for lunch! Grouse, wild rice, carrots, yum!

Shooting grouse on the wing is one of the sports' greatest shooting challenges. Once you've done that a few times, you'll be addicted to it and NEVER want to shoot a grouse on the ground again. It'll feel stupid and pointless, like you've cheated yourself.

Good for you, that's a great hunt you guys had. Pics? And what is your gun?

Getting your first "double" is one of those moments that just kind of stay with you forever. Mine was with my*newly acquired BSS 20. Sunny, warm fall afternoon, leaves turned golden. Wow!!

Here's me with the first 5, shotgun is a Winchester 1200

That's my choice when I go grouse hunting also. Win 1200.

I go with some guys who are shooting BEAUTIFUL O/U's and SxS guns, and they look at me like the guy who just parked his chevette in the "porche's only" parking lot. I know they are *mostly* kidding, but I couldn't care anyway.

In my mind, it's not about the cost of the gun, but who brings home the most birds. And if it's not me that brings home the most birds, I reserve the right to change my statement to say that it's just all about the hunt itself.

Too true.... :(

I have to admit it, I really enjoy walking the forested trails, the Ithaca SKB O/U 20 gauge in hand. Taking hares or grouse as they come. This is the first year I've seriously put it to use, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it while getting plenty of fresh air and exercise!
(My M37 Featherlight, also a 20 gauge, is overdue for use as well. The darn thing is so slender it could almost pass for a 410 pumpgun)

Cheers fellas, enjoy the great outdoors in which ever way you choose! :)

I really need to move somewhere with more grouse. By far my favorite type of hunting and the tastiest game animal I've eaten so far. Can't wait to try the pheasant my buddy got with his RAM 3500.

That's funny. On the way to a rifle range one day, I had foregone a hunting day to help a friend sight in his new-to-him rifle. About a mile from the range a lone ruffed grouse walked in front of my car and committed suicide!
Very first ruffie of the year..........;)

Grouse on the wing is my favourite way to spend time in the field. Glad I am not alone, my friends look at me funny when I tell them I go out looking for grouse only, when deer are open:)

Things are even better this year since this little guy came into our life. Rusty is a one year old Cockerpoo :) The old lady brought him home un-announced, he just naturally started flushing and retrieving on his own:)

The birds have been few and far between in my hunting grounds this year but it has still been one of my most memorable.
