Grouse in Simcoe County

There's the Dufferin County forest, on Airport Rd, 10 kms North of Hwy 89, 5kms North of Mansfield at the 20th sideroad East. A few thousand acres of multi-use trails with signs posted that allow hunting. Lots of grouse and squirrel there.

As far as which ones have grouse or not, I'm not 100% certain as I never made it out to them for grouse this year. The last part of the deer season I was using the one off burnside line, nice and close to home (seeing that you're from Orillia as well)

I took a walk through Slesser a few weeks ago to scout it out and from all the tracks in the snow, I'd say it get used fairly often for dog walking. Apart from a few areas, it seemed to be mostly red pine and very little ground cover but there is some okay looking habitat on the Carlyon line side that might be worth a second look. I saw some rabbit and small canine (fox or coyote) sign but that's about it. Silver Creek, which is nearby, seemed to be about the same, except there is some cedar and poplar on a few spots that might yield birds. Lots of snowmobile and people tracks there so birds would probably be pretty skittish. Also, looking at some of the trees, food seemed like it might be pretty scarce in both tracts.
