Opening day in the south Cariboo ....

Gorgeous weather (23 degrees) took 4 birds, and broke my buddies chocolate lab onto his very first grouse!
Good times. :)

Lots of grouse are still in family groups in our area; flushed one big group of 9 birds! The dog was a little too impatient on that one .

Oct 1 here. I found a very good spot last year while deer hunting.

Too far to walk for most road hunters, so it should be a good spot with the dog. :dancingbanana:

.

Spent all of Saturday in the mountains with a Lab and two very well trained German Wirehairs. Put on nearly 20 clicks of walking. Food and cover was everywhere. Never saw a bird and the dogs never even got "birdy" once.

We had a horribly wet spring though and I think the hatch might have been lost this year.

We had a very wet and cold spring as well sjemac.. I hope the numbers are decent this year in my neck of the woods.. according to my brother "which works in the bush" has seen LOTS of grouse. So we shall see come monday morning at the crack of dawn :)

what area are you from Popcan?

Location is under my avatar ;) not that far from K T K.

Were you wearing your hat of invisibility? Just owning it has to help. :D

By the way, for everyone's information, Ken has donated several "Hats of Invisibility" which will be given as prizes at Haggisfest next year.

I don't fully understand the technology, but the hats seem to radiate some sort of stealth or cloaking device, which makes it impossible for Grouse to see you.

I was going to keep these a secret, :)mad: way to go Ken), but now that it's out of the bag, yes, I was testing one of the hats, and it seems to work!

Here in the intereor the birds are also in groups we got 5 not one moved away in fact they were checking out the ones that fell and were looking at them when they got there turn. :dancingbanana:

Au contraire mon ami, I only refered to your hat of invisability, no mention was made by me of any other, so in fact you let the cat out of the bag, but really no big deal. If I would of been just a touch smarter and had the ability to read better I wouldn't of confused the years for Haggisfest. Once I did that I realized that due to the fact I am into the on set of dementia I thought it would be better to send you the hats and let you have to store them and try to remember where you put them next year.:D
So in fact if I forget to come to Haggisfest or have my summer ruined by having to work I'll not look quite so bad.

You are following the invisibilty instructions correctly I hope.:runaway:

Grouse numbers appear to be down in my neck of the woods. Never the less I'm waiting for cooler weather so I can do a combo trip. Grouse and Papanky!

Went out twice and didn't see nor hear any. The numbers do seem to have dropped compared to the last couple of years.
