Grouse Opener

took the hike out for a ride, flushed a few but only managed to see one while walking. Not the biggest bird but a birds a bird. Man does it ever get the heart going! Woke up the next morning to a huge "bang" and looked out and there's a dead grouse below my window, breakfast in bed! Extra shells, shotgun or 22 or choice, water, snack, compass gps, rain gear, change of socks and knife. Carry some other other things when taking the bike out but on foot i try to stay light for grouse hunting.

The grouse wagon, fun way to get some exercise and see some critters.

Just getting ready to head out this morning. Saw four bunches in an hour opening morning. Two for eight on my end. Harley did his job well. Harley's whoa needs a little work though. Good luck to everyone.

This will be my first year hunting, planning on going out on the weekend and taking some long walks to see what I can find, pretty stoked, reading all of this makes me even more so.

first outing this weekend
still green here so don't expect to see much but you never know

i carry a single 20ga with 7.5 shot . a pocket full of extra shells, a knife, compass, water, and an over the shoulder bag to carry the birds.

Will update next week

Took this bird in the last ten minutes of a four hour hike. Beautiful day to be hunting the Qu'appelle river valley. My four year old daughter Rosie insisted on being in the photo. We'll have it tomorrow with mushroom and onion barley risotto.

Love the lefty .22, looks like mine and the pic of dfb's daughter is oddly familiar too, except my four year old came along with me yesterday and scared everything within a mile away. I had a ruffie in my scope but she yelled out "HIS NAME IS BUDDY!" just as I was about to squeeze the trigger. It ended up being a really nice walk in the bush with her, but I can't rightfully call it hunting.

most often use my 20ga browning silver if I'm out with the dogs, but my zastava 22 takes it's fair share as well

these were our first grouse of the year, no appropriate gun in hand at the time but the dogs had fun putting them up...wish I had a pic afterwards, the "why didn't you shoot" face lol

I'm going to use my new to me Citori 20 ga o/u this yr. I have to wait until Monday in order to go with no Lic this yr.
I'll be taking my best Pal as usual. For him, I take a jug of cold water and a water dish. A roll of T-paper, paper towels, a fillet knife, hand cleaner, a sealed cold/salt water container for the field dressed grouse, ice jug of water for me, plenty of shells in a variety, a garbage bag, my camera, cell phone, hunting guide, may have forgotten something. We may or may not come back with a few, depends on Lady Luck, sometimes she joins us, sometimes she doesn't! At any rate, we always have a great time in the bush!
