Hi all.
Tried the search function, so apologies if this was posted elsewhere.
Finally got the GSG16 to the range today after collecting dust for a year or so.
First two mags were flawless with Remington LR ammo.
After that, jam city. Literally, one shot, then stovepipe or FTF.
The mags were not loaded to capacity.

Seems like an ammo issue, but strange that the first 40 rounds went off without a hitch.

It's frustrating for sure!

Make sure the gun is cleaned and lubed properly, if you haven't already done so. Then try some different ammo. My 16 only likes one brand of ammo - CCI Mini-Mag Round Nose. With this ammo, the failure rate is around .5%. With all other brands of ammo, the failure rate is like 50%. Especially with hollow-point ammo - major feeding issues.

Some of these 16s are wildly ammo picky. Buy a bunch of 50/100 round boxes, test them out, and report back.

This, for sure. 22LR ammunition is dirty, even the best stuff. Fully brush and swab all of the running surfaces from the chamber to the bolt to the inside of the receiver. Check the extractor for proper movement.

Or just switch ammunition. I've always found that all types of Remington 22LR ammunition is generally the worst for reliability with all of my semi autos. However, the Golden Bullet stuff works well with some of mine. It could be that your rifle doesn't like your ammunition after getting dirtied up a bit from firing, and that it will be more tolerant of other ammunition between longer cleaning intervals.
 
gsg16 has run flawlessly over here. Put 300 rounds of cci quiets through without issue. Yellow jackets, golden bullets, (crappy) wildcats, thunderbolts and stingers all worked very well.
 
I've found that mine really doesn't like light loaded rounds. I accidentally bought some cci sub sonic and it seemed like they didn't have enough jam to send the bolt back since it is a blow back system (just my guess might not be the case).
 
I've been running CCI Mini-Mags through mine with very few failures. And all failures were priming failures.

Ran the rifle dry from purchase for about 900 rounds, then cleaned it after light strikes were getting more common, then ran it fine, though I do get some misfires here and there, it's not a huge deal.

Going to look into getting a bulk pack of 3000 CCI tactical, as they are 1200FPS, and I'm hoping they won't provide any issues cycling the action, but if they do, they should be fine for the GSG 1911 anyway. These things are known to be ammo picky though.
 
Check that little bolt hold opening spring and make sure it didn't fallout. I had the exact same issues, noticed the spring fell out somehow. Replaced it and it was cycling much better afterwards.
 
Also check that your mags are feeding properly. My experience with GSG mags is that they are generally not great. If you stuff more than 22 rounds in them, they will sometimes tangle the spring. All of my mags for both the GSG-15 and GSG-16 had followers that will get stuck in the middle even while the mag is empty. If they feel like they are dragging when you move them up and down I found that I had to back the bolt out on them to the last two threads to get them to run smoothly, I also use silicone grease on them.
 
I found that the gun needs to be cleanned often, oiled with a good oil, Also loading the mags is very important. They are very unforgiving if you just cram the ammo in and expect to load. they must be loaded with care and uniformity.

Ammo is important. The gun prefers HV ammo. Better ammo better results. CCIs are king for me, but others work well. watch for wax bullet build up over time..

I've seen a lot of GSG-16s run very well at DSSMatch.com multigun matches over the past two years. As others have said:

-rimfire is DIRTY. Make sure you clean well after each trip
-high velocity ammo is more reliable
-check those springs! Guys have found ones out of retractable ballpoint pens will work as replacements!

Overall I've been pretty impressed with the reliability of the GSG-16s as a carbine for multigun matches. Of course, they struggle at distance, but 90% of the match is CQB style. Between the OIC BS and ammo prices skyrocketing I expect to see a lot more rimfires out there this year.

Had the exact same issue. Didn’t matter what ammo, or magazine, clean gun dirty gun ect. I tore it completely apart, examined every part ect. Put it meticulously back together.. when I first bought it, was a DREAM! Then went to crap & was the worst gun ever so I sold it!
