GSG-16 Safety Selector Wear

I disassembled my GSG-16 safety selector because I'm trying to print an AK-style selector.
I noticed a worn groove on the shaft of the selector, which is obviously from the pin inside the trigger assembly. Is this really how it's supposed to work? A metal pin grinding the plastic shaft as the selector is rotated between positions? Surely the selector will fail in a very short time. No?

No. Not at all.

The pin in question that has made that mark is a fixed retention pin/detent. It does not move other than to snap down into those two channels at the end of the safety selector's travel. It only rides along the safety selector shaft when the safety is actuated. Therefore without any variance in it's height or alteration of the path of the safety selector shaft, once that channel was worn there should be no more wear ever again over the life of the gun.

Didn't want to start a new thread for a tangentially related newb-question so:
For guns with a big gap behind the trigger, is it "safe" to put your finger there for carrying the gun? I know it's otherwise a safety-no-no to put your finger in the trigger guard normally, but it almost seems safer to "carry" the GSG-16 with a firm all-fingers-closed grip, including behind the trigger.
I'm definitely less likely to drop the gun that way. I do need to get a sling mounted too....
