GSG 16 vs MP40 vs Ruger PCC?

So I’m sitting here at home, safe from all the covid-carrying folk, wondering which rifle would be better for both summer mag dumps at the outdoor rifle range and winter 25yd indoors. Kind of love/hate the toy/airgun look of the new GSG 16, but here’s my list:

Ruger PCC
GSG 16
GSG MP40
Savage A22 Precision?

Both 22lr and 9mm should be pretty affordable, I wouldn’t shoot more than 2000 rounds/year.

Which one would YOU pick? :ar15:

I went with the GSG16 because of the GSG522 kit from IRUNGUNS and the 9" barrel offered by Dlask, and I'm awaiting the return of my rifle this week.

Can't wait to hit the range with it this weekend!

Cheers
Jay

I have the GSG 16 and the Ruger PCC. I like them both but the Ruger is definitely a better firearm. The 16 is fun for plinking and a bit cheaper to buy and run but if I could only have one it would be the Ruger.
I would not buy an MP40 as it just doesn’t float my boat at all. I know nothing about the savage.

Well shot my buddies 9mm carbine, but out to a 100 yards I had just as much fun with my GSG16, honesty. Past a hundred yards my 556 comes out as the 9mm is more expensive and frankly starts losing steam unlike my 556s.

The GSG16 is actually quite accurate with irons or a red dot, scope is easier on my eyes.

But after the GSG 5 kit and Dlask barrel, the GSG16 is my fav hands down!

Since this pic, I have lost the plastic scope rail, swapped out the fixed stock HK push pin, installed an HK drum rear sight, changed the selector, and done an HK claw mount. :)

I also have the GSG-16 and a Ruger PC Carbine.

For me, it’s hands down the Ruger.

The GSG is fun, but mine isn’t very reliable, and is very ammo picky. It looks awesome (modded to resemble an MP5, like many on CGN). It feels cheap and the build quality is kind of meh. It is a lot of fun when it works.

The Ruger is very fun with the 10 round mags, feels very well built, solid in your hands, and is very accurate. It’s a blast to shoot! The downsides to the rifle are easily remedied with aftermarket mods (extended mag release, better extractor for even more consistent operation).

Wow strange, my GSG16 eats all my copper solid HV ammo, sticks, drums, eats it all just fine.

How do you find the 9mm with irons past 100 yards?

We really tried to enjoy the 9mm at 200 and 300 yards but, just seemed loopy compared to 556. Just like shooting my shorty 10/22, the ten round limit was just annoying for plinking fun, it was the main reason I bought the GSG16, as we typically shoot at 50 - 75 yards hated stopping at 10 rounds. :)

Same, I bought the GSG for plinking, because the RCMP neutered the 10/22 mags.

I haven’t used the Ruger past 50 yards. But it did great at 50 yards with irons. Throwing a red dot sight on it the next time I’m out, which of course will bring tighter groups. Plus I have several Mcarbo parts just installed on the carbine, which are supposed to improve things even more.

Thanks guys, so what I’m hearing is:
-Ruger PCC for a better firearm
-GSG16 for larger mag capacity

Does 22lr really reach 100yds better than 9mm? Also, has nobody seen the Savage A22 Precision yet? Looks like what a lot of us would lile the 10/22 to be:

For plinking or even gophers I shoot out to 100 yards with my .17 and .22s, FPE is not important to me for plinking only cost.

The .17 is much flatter shooting and far more explosive on rodents.

A .22 Stinger with a 50 yard zero -3.8" at 100 yards, and a whopping -36.4 at 200 yards.

The .17 with a 50 yard zero drops -0.3" at 100 yds, and -9.1" at 200 yards, that is why I prefer the .17 on vermin.

9mm (115 gr- 1400 fps ***too hot?*** using a Shooters Calculator.com) with a 50 yard zero drops -5.13" at 100 yards, and -36.6" at 200 yards, but it does have 224 ft lbs of energy (I still prefer my 5.56 for power).

55G at 3200fps 50 yard zero .55" drop at 100 yards, -1.6" at 200 yards, 787 ft lbs of energy.

So plinking with .22 or 9mm has the same basic holdover is what I see, and I am not limited to 10 rounds. :)

Hmm, maybe 22 isn’t so bad...the point of this firearm would be just fun plinking/short range target anyway, mostly upto 25yds

I’m going to take another look at the GSG, the Savage is heavy for indoor range standing up shooting...didn’t someone make a workaround for putting 25rd mags in a 10/22 as well?

SBR has an insert that use 597 mags, and Dlask has a TUFF22 mag that requires the 10/22 to be notched to take the mag.

The GSG16 is light and easy to shoot lots, just watch the loading of the bullets (watch the video) and it will feed just fine.

I built an 10/22 for my daughter with a factory short barrel as it was too heavy for her on the front end.

My son has a GSG STG44, is heavy as sh_t, but he is over 6 foot and is stronger than her.
